A Rustic Kind Of Day
I’ve always loved rustic details, my mom decorated our childhood home in a hacienda style and my memories of childhood are filled with tables made from huge tree trunks, brick ovens, mustard yellow walls and cobalt blue accents.
Sometimes I think I would love to have a rustic home again, although many times I’m drawn to a more modern style. I’ve come to find that combining a more modern style with rustic elements give so much warmth and character to a space that I always try to include something rustic and creative in my each area.
Right now I have a glass vase with dry branches in my living room, that may not be a brick oven, but I definitely count as rustic as it provides the same feeling to my space as another rustic element would. While the rustic details are great, they aren’t as easy to come by as you might think, I’ve found a few decorative elements that are easy and cheap to make using recycled materials such as a wreath made out of rusted jars caps. Rustic always looks easy because the less detailed something is the better it looks. Check out some inspirational rustic images that might inspire you to make, buy or be lucky enough to find them in an antique store.
Just an extra little detail like a dry branch included in a table setting can make a boring dinner look extraordinary!
