Just a couple days after Pantone released the color of the year 2014, I started feeling curious about how stores will react to that new color. All of this happened before New Year’s, so I wasn’t sure if I was going to find a lot of radiant orchid in the stores at that time, or if they would wait until they put out the spring collections to add the new color of the year to their window displays and racks.
Just going into one of the bigger department stores, a bunch of purple travel bags said hello to me. I actually couldn’t find a lot of radiant orchid pieces in the women’s clothes, but I found lots of purple men’s t-shirts, which surprised me. I saw lots of radiant orchid accessories, handbags, shoes, nail polishes, scarfs. I’m actually excited about the purple look for this spring.
I didn’t see many prints and patterns with the new color of the year either, things were mostly solid and plain.
One of the most fascinating things I observed was the way they displayed the purple pieces. In the women’s department, purple matched with red and other neutrals was abundant. In the teen’s clothing, they were showing outfits matching purple with navy blue and hot pink. For men, purple, burgundy and grays.
I know this is all just crazy me, but I thought it will be interesting to check out how much recently released color trends affect the way we shop. Just a few days after they released radiant orchid, stores moved their purple items to the front of the stores and window displays.
I will be back to the stores soon to see what things change with the new season, i think it will be interesting to see how quickly the new color of the year effects the colors in the stores. I guess I’m just crazy like that ha ha. Next trip you take to the mall, check out what you see in the window displays, I bet lots and lots of purples and pinks…. I have the feeling we might be getting a little tired of this color by the end of spring… or maybe before that?
What do you think? Looking forward to a year with radiant orchid?
