Coloring Books: 5 Benefits for Adults

Coloring books can be as great, or better, as watching TV after a busy day! Check out why is such a pleasant activity for adults too.

The other day I read this article about how coloring books can be as great, or better, as watching TV after a busy day and I thought it was so true! because I definitely can feel its benefits after a long day running around the kids and running errands.

I have memories of me in high school coloring princess coloring books and applying all kind of crazy eyeshadows on them to find interesting color combinations. Those moments come back to me as happy memories and I love to recreate them by continuing doing the things that used to make me smile when I was younger.

Recently I started a new collection at home of coloring books with interesting patterns, I have bought a few of them from museums from trips and others I found online, like this one, Tiempo Libre from Free Period Press, with simple patterns that let me play with colors and even has a few blank pages where you can fill it with your own doodles!

Why are adult coloring books so amazing?

  1. Coloring books can be relaxing. Coloring has a de-stressing effect. One of the reasons is that when we focus on a particular activity, we tend to think less about our problems and concerns.

  2. Coloring stimulates the brain and senses. Coloring also develops fine motor skills, imagination, and creativity. You have to plan which colors you want to add to your page, and the combinations or designs you want to create. I love coloring books that are abstract for that same reason, I can play with color combinations and create different pieces and scenarios.

  3. Attention to detail. Coloring can help improve concentration and attention to detail. Especially coloring books that are intricate and have small details, like tiny flowers, leaves or insects. Check out this one here.

  4. Patience. You need to be patient to fill with color inside all those lines perfectly. Coloring can definitely be a mindful activity that can motivate you to breath in and breath out a couple of times.

  5. It promotes coordination. We used to spend much of our time when we were kids playing and learning to develop the coordination of our movements, so we shouldn't stop enjoying these activities as we grow up, the benefits can keep still benefiting us as we age!

Coloring bring us many benefits and is a great way to spend the afternoon or night after a stressful and hard day.

It’s also so satisfactory to see a coloring page finished. I’m sure you remember that feeling from when you were kid, why not continue doing those activities that used to make us smile? Yes, please! :)
