How to Make Homemade Edible Paint Safe for Babies

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Wet-Nap®, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #ConquerTheMess http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

Just before Jax was born, we started a list of activities we wanted to try with him. I was dying to try this homemade edible paint recipe but I wanted to wait until he was old enough to have some fun with the textures and colors.

We finally made it happen last weekend and boy, it was so much fun!

The great part is that this homemade edible paint is safe for almost all babies and toddler’s skin! It’s made out of food ingredients, so if your baby is old enough to eat solids, you will not have a problem if he decides to put some of this paint in his mouth. It also can be an easy clean up craft if you have some Wet-Nap® cleansing wipes in hand like I did.

These amazing super wipes are perfect to clean up super messes, like the one we made. They are safe on faces and bodies, have moisturizing aloe and smell really good. I got the 110 count package in my local Walmart. I’m also trying the antibacterial hand wipes with citrus scent, these ones smell delicious!

To make homemade edible paint safe for babies you’ll need:

  • ½ Cup corn starch (per color)
  • Food coloring
  • 1/4 Cup water (per color)
  • Small containers (depending on the number of colors you’d like to make)

STEPS:

  1. Start adding 1/2 cup of cornstarch in a container. Pour the 1/4 of water little by little until you find the desired texture and mix both ingredients together.

Those measurements worked for me, but if you want a thicker consistency add less water. The texture is quite fun to play with it, kind of Play-Doh.

  1. Add food coloring, 2 or 3 drops should be enough.

When our homemade paint was ready we couldn’t wait to play with it. We took Jax, our homemade edible paint and the Wet-Nap® cleansing wipes with us to a park nearby.

Painting with the homemade paint was really cool. Jax made the funniest faces when we put his feet on the paper. The texture was really interesting for him. He also loved staring at me dripping the paint with my fingers. Something about the colors really intrigued him.

So precious! I love seeing baby feet in paint & it is always a great keepsake. Great idea since paint can get out of hand.

    • I know, although I don’t think the painting will last for a long time, so I took a few pictures of the artwork and put it on the refrigerator.
I’ll definitely make this activity again with Jax when he gets older, he had so much fun and it was so easy to get rid of the mess with those super wipes.
