Gift Guide: The Perfect Coloring Book
Four tips that will help you decide how to look for the perfect coloring book.
Coloring books are awesome. They have great benefits for adults and help stimulate the brain and senses with kids. I wouldn’t be surprised if coloring books are one of the most popular gifts during the Holiday season. They are fun, inexpensive and promote happiness and creativity.
But, how do you decide what kind of coloring book to give for each family member or friend?
Four tips that will help you decide how to look for the perfect coloring book for the people you love:
1. Check out the designs, shapes and white spaces.
Look for complicated and extravagant designs if you are planning on gifting a coloring book to an adult. The coloring books with mandalas or natural elements like gardens and flowers are really relaxing. One of my favorites is Bloom: The Flower Garden Coloring Book. I love the beautiful printed cover and the variety of designs that make the coloring experience interesting and exciting.
For kids, look for simple designs, with lots of white space. Coloring books with animals, cartoon characters or paint by numbers are great for the little ones, they are easier to color and have something educational to offer. I really like Creative Creatures: An Animal Coloring Book. The shapes are modern and cute, and I really love the last part of the coloring book where you can draw your own creative creatures!
2. What’s their favorite thing in the world?
Nowadays you can find tons of coloring books with a specific theme. So start by looking by the things they might like. If they are into nature, check out something related with birds, butterflies, gardens or flowers. If you have no idea what they might like, go for something abstract or modern.
3. Paper Quality and other Materials.
This point might sound silly, but if you are giving away a coloring book for someone that has a background in design or art, this person might be a bit picky and actually know about coloring techniques. Think about the material he/she might have at home. Almost all coloring books are great for colored pencils. Gel pens work with detailed and complicated designs. Art markers color beautifully, but the coloring book paper needs to be a bit thicker than usual so the ink doesn’t bleed through to the other side of the page.
For kids it’s easier, if they have crayons and/or colored pencils most coloring book paper will be fine.
4. Judge a Book by It’s Cover.
Another way to pick a great coloring book for a gift is simply pick the prettiest cover. I got three beautiful books by Free Period Press to review them and I have to say that one of my favorite things about them, besides the pretty designs, is the paper quality and vibrant colors on their covers. They are something that will catch my attention in a bookstore for sure.
If you are giving away a coloring book to someone like me, they will appreciate a pretty, soft, colorful cover, I can guarantee it.
Now you have a few tips that will help you pick a perfect coloring book for all those family member and friends. Don’t forget to get one for you as well, coloring will make you happy, I promise!
