How to Make Your Own Pom Pom Rug

Step by step tutorial about how to make a fluffy rainbow rug using big colorful pompoms!

We made this awesome pompom rug for a bedroom and we are obsessed about how cool it looks! It’s also a perfect rug for a living room, or any other space in your house because it will brighten your days with its fluffy and super colorful design.

A week ago I went shopping in downtown Mexico City and saw some giant colorful pompoms and fell in love with them. At first I had no idea what to make with them, but then I had this fun idea of making a colorful and cute rug  for my bedroom and this was the result!

Check out the tutorial below:

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN POM PON RUG:

  1. Draw two circles in the solid color fabric.

Start by tracing a circle of about 23 inches in diameter using your solid color fabric and a homemade compass. I made my own compass using fabric! You can check out the video below MIN 2:12 (Which by the way is in Spanish, but it’ll give you a better idea) so you can see more details of how I created the compass. It’s so easy!

2. Cut two circular pieces. MIN 3:31

3. Sew the two circles backwards, so you see the part of the fabric where you measured and left pencil or marker traces. Leave a small space open, about 3 inches open. You will turn this piece over through the 3 inch opening in the next step.

4. Turn the fabric over! so those pencil and pen lines will be hidden inside your rug.

5. Close that 3 inches opening that you left open using thread and needle.

6. The fun part! Start gluing the pompoms on top of your new colorful rug. The more messy, the more beautiful they will look. I promise.

Now you have a beautiful fun and colorful rug for your living room, bedroom or anywhere else you can think of!

Here is another cool project, similar to this one, using another huge circular piece of fabric:
