How to Make a Cute Wall Herb Garden

How to make a DIY wall herb garden that is cute and small, which is great for small patios and terraces. 

As soon as spring arrived, I got excited about gardening projects. One I had in mind was to make a wall herb garden that hung on my fence.

Now that I’m working with Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day® for Plant Something Day, I knew that I needed to make this mini herb garden come to life.

Here is how I created a vertical herb garden in my patio and this is how it looks (picture below) when it was ready:

MATERIALS:

• Wood crate shelves

• Acrylic paint. Matte finish

• Sandpaper

• Brushes

• Herbs and seeds

• Garden soil

• Small terracotta planters

How to Make a Vertical Herb Garden:

Tip. You can use recycled wood crates from second hand or vintage stores or look online for wood crate shelves like this ones here (affiliate link), until you find something that can work in your home. There is a big chance that I got mine at ikea, but I don’t remember now.

1. Start by painting your wooden crates using your favorite color. Use non-toxic acrylic paint in a matte finish. Let them dry for a few hours.

2. Sand the corners of the wooden crates to give them a beautiful vintage touch.

3. Then, start planting your herbs. I planted the slip of basil seed paperthat I received with the Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day® products in a small terracotta planter. I can’t wait to see it grow!

4. Hang the wooden crates from a wall or a fence and arrange your favorite herbs around.

This project is really simple, cute and it doesn’t take much space, which is great for small patios and terraces. You could also recreate the look for indoor spaces and add a few cacti and succulents!
