Live Colorful Studio. Elba Valverde

This weekend was hopeful for many of us who believe in a country guided by kindness and acceptance. It was a reminder that we are together, and that when we unite, we can achieve great things. I want that for Live Colorful too. To create a community of dreamers, makers, artists, color lovers, who are always in a search of a better version of the world and themselves.

Friday night, I sat down to draw a quote related to the march on Saturday in my journal. That quote ended up looking unintentionally like a woman raising her arm in a white dress, with a heart on her chest.

Love is the Movement. Live Colorful

It’s funny, because I didn’t realized that it looked like that until my husband pointed it to me hours later. My plan was to make just the quote, but then I drew something I didn’t like on one side, so I decided to cover all the edges with paint. Thinking about what I decided to make, and how it ended up looking. It made me feel like art journaling is indeed, helping me process my thoughts and emotions.

I started an art journal at the end of 2016, without knowing that one of the scariest things in my life was about to happen just a few days after. I had a car accident three days before New Year’s Eve. I felt how my world was shaken and I have found a way to heal fear and anxiety in paint, watercolors, ink and markers.

Art Journaling Love. Live Colorful Studio

Some people, like myself, find regular journal writing difficult to maintain. But art journaling comes easy, and even relaxing and fun.

A few days ago I created a survey for my Instagram community to get to know what they would they like to see more in the blog. These were the options:

  1. PERSONAL POSTS AND LIFESTYLE. vegan colorful recipes, cruelty-free beauty, art projects, motherhood tips, everyday inspiration.
  2. ART, JOURNALING, AND MOTIVATION. Art supplies reviews and recommendations, art techniques, sketchbook, journaling, quotes, doodles, daily inspiration.
  3. BLOGGING TIPS. I can share my tricks about how to make creative videos, take colorful photos, styling and product photography, blogging and things like that.

I was honestly surprised that the most popular option was indeed art journaling, motivation, and art techniques. My heart smiled when I saw the answer because it’s something I’m incredibly passionate about right now. It’s giving me positive results, and it’s making me feel creative everyday.

Live Colorful Survey 2017

I believe art journaling can be therapeutic. I’m loving it because it helps me process my thoughts. It also allows me to practice, learn, mess up and try again art and illustration techniques without the pressure of making it perfect. I believe that my art journal is a safe and forgiving place. A place without expectations and rules.

You guys also told me that you prefer content in English, and that videos in YouTube were your favorite way to learn.

Thanks so much for your support. I’m excited to share more about these topics with you, so we can make colorful messes together! Subscribe to the blog or follow us on Instagram for new adventures 😉

Meet Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2017

Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2017: Poised Taupe (SW 6039). Es clásico y moderno a la vez, el balance perfecto entre cálido y frío.

When I moved to Asheville, North Carolina, I felt captivated by the warm tones that covered the streets of the city during fall.

I arrived with the idea of painting our new apartment in a cool gray tone, but the warmth of the place made me decide for a cozy brown named Mocha (SW 6067).

I painted just a few walls with Mocha (SW 6067), and that was enough to create an intimate and comfy space that we loved for years. However, I dreamt constantly about cool gray walls, something about it made me think of modern and stylish spaces, and I wanted that feeling in my apartment too.

Last week, Sherwin-Williams announced Poised Taupe (SW 6039), as the 2017 Color of the Year. This modern take on a timeless classic is that color I dreamt about 6 years ago, when I moved to Asheville, North Carolina! A beautiful neutral that brings warm and cool tones together to create one irresistibly versatile color.

“Poised Taupe celebrates everything people love about cool gray as a neutral, and also brings in the warmth of brown, taking the color to an entirely new level. Not cool or warm, or gray or brown, Poised Taupe is a weathered, woodsy neutral bringing a sense of coziness and harmony that people are seeking,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams.

A Sherwin-Williams team traveled the world to identify the latest color. From there, they discovered that the neutrals are in a transition from monochrome gray of the past five years to a more complex brown.

The current trends related to natural, organic influences and earthy tones also inspired the selection of this color as a winner for this upcoming year. “Consumers crave spaces where they feel welcome and welcome to get in. The brown earth combined with a conservative gray, creating Poised Taupe, embodies all these emotions,” said Wadden.

COLOR PALETTE INSPIRATION:

You can pair Poised Taupe with many rich colors. Some favorites are Stardew (SW 9138), a vibrant Rave Red (SW 6608), a deep teal like Marea Baja (SW 9185) or a sunny hued Bee (SW 6683).

Last year I shared the color collections that were going to be trending in 2015. Remember? The Unrestrained collection was filled with vibrant and fun shades, it was my favorite, especially the color, Nifty Turquoise, which I think is perfect for a living room or guest bathroom.

Now it’s time to say hello to Colormix 2016. This new collection was inspired by the technology and modernity mixed with natural materials. It is the mix of the past, present and the beauty of both times in one space.

PURA VIDA

Pura Vida was inspired by natural elements and pure tones of ancient alabaster and marble. In the palette you will find warm grays, light browns and even pale pinks. This palette would look great in any room in your home. You could even combine two or three colors of this collection to add textures and other interesting details to your home, such as painting the trim with one and the walls with another.

MAS AMOR POR FAVOR

This fun color palette has been inspired by the mix of old and new. You’ll find elegant greens and modern fresh pinks. The intention is to inspire you to rediscover the beauty behind having fun with friends, parties in the garden, and small luxuries. I love these colors for restoring antique furniture pieces or dining room and kitchen walls.

NOUVEAU NARRATIVE

Navy blue with grays, bronzes and copper accents make this look so beautiful and sophisticated. This palette is inspired by the industrial revolution, details of the past but with a touch of a futuristic and the modern world.

TRAJECTORY

This is perhaps my favorite color collection. I fell in love with the mix of intense purples and metallic touches. This collection was inspired by the modern and technological stage we live in today, 3D printers, drones, applications, and sensors that make daily tasks much easier and faster.
