DIY: Decorate your Own Holographic / Iridescent Shoes

DIY: How to decorate your own holographic / iridescent shoes with this simple technique | Live Colorful

We are obsessed with iridescent everything! Shoes, backpacks, lipsticks, nails and home decor items. So the other day, when I was about to throw away a pair of ugly shoes that I didn’t use anymore, I had the great idea of decorate them with that holographic/iridescent effect that we love so much.

I have been wanted to try a DIY inspired by this multicolored effect, and trying it for the first time in my old shoes sounded like a great experiment. Now they look alive and fun, and they can stay with me for a few more months.

Just as a note, make a pre-test in a small area of your shoe, or in a piece fabric so you can have a better idea of how it’ll look. The iridescent foil works different in each surface and texture, so make sure it works as you want in yours.

MATERIALS:

STEPS:

  1. Thoroughly clean the surface of our shoes.
  2. Use a spatula or card and spread the adhesive lightly over the area you want to cover with the foil iridescent.
  3. Cut a piece of foil, that fits in your shoe, and place on top of the adhesive.
  4. Use a clean rag to cover the foil and press with the hot iron for approximately 20 seconds.
  5. Allow the whole product to dry and then remove the layer of foil.
  6. Cut more pieces of foil and apply them until you cover your whole shoe.

I discovered that if you work in small areas the process is so much easier and it looks better.

How to Make Flower Crown with Ribbons and Pom poms | Live Colorful

Flower crowns are still awesome. They add a fun touch to any summer outfit. You can wear them for a special occasion, a pool party, or just because you want to feel special and different in a Monday afternoon.

A recent event inspired me to make one. I wanted to use durable materials so I could storage it and use it in the future. I bought some artificial silk flowers and added my own colorful touch using pompoms and ribbons.

Check out the video (minute 5:02) to see how I made mine.

MATERIALS:

STEPS:

  1. Measure your head to calculate the size of your crown. Cut the floral wire and add 2 inches on each side to wrap it and close it. Close the wire in a semi-circle shape and wrap the edges as much as you can.
  2. Start tangling the artificial flowers on the floral wire. Arrange them on the front of the crown.
  3. When you are happy with the way the flowers look, tangle floral green tape around the whole crown to cover the floral wire and the wire from the artificial flowers.
  4. Now add the ribbons! When you finish, trim them to a desired length. You can leave a few longer than others for a playful look.
  5. Colorful pom poms, of course! You can sew them or glue them on top of the ribbons for a fun touch.

I love versatile fashion accessories, especially the ones you can adjust and wear in many ways and many occasions.

Summer inspired me to create a braided fabric head wrap using some pretty fabric scraps. The patterns in the fabric are summery and fun and the way to make it is easy peasy.

I know you will love the idea of being able to use this braided head wrap as headband, but also to decorate a hat and even make it a bow on one of my favorite summer bags for the beach.

MATERIALS:

  • Fabric scraps
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Hot glue
  • Hot Glue gun

STEPS:

  1. Start by cutting six long wide strips of fabric. Approximately 36 inches long. One way to know the length of your fabric strips is by measuring your head or hat and adding 3″ on each side to be able tie a knot on both ends.
  2. Organize the fabric into three pairs. Put the fabric together, leaving the printed side of the fabric exposed.
  3. Start braiding your three pieces.
  4. Cut the excess of fabric from both sides and give a few stitches to hold the two ends together. Then tie a knot at the end.

That easy! Now you have a beautiful head piece that is ready to be paired with a flirty, fun summer outfit!

You can also update an old hat you have at home to make it look fresh and beach ready with this simple DIY project.
