I have something super special for all mommies, kids, teachers, and everyone who loves children’s books. Last time I collaborated with Hawaiian Children’s Books we had so much fun and a great response from all of you that we decided to get together again to bring to you a craft idea inspired by one of Gill McBarnet’s illustrated books, Gecko Hide and Seek. But we also wanted to give you the opportunity to win a copy of this cute book, so here it is, a super fun giveaway!

Win a copy of Gecko Hide and Seek by Gill McBarnet Hawaiian Childrens Books GIVEAWAY | Live Colorful

Gecko Hide and Seek, is a really fun counting book that tells a story about some geckos who hide behind palm trees, pineapples, leaves and other beautiful vegetation. I love Gill McBarnet’s books because they made me think of Hawaii, its colors, and beautiful weather. It’s so perfect for this season because, who wouldn’t love to be in Hawaii right now? right?

Jaxon started collecting leaves a few weeks ago, so we had a big pile of them on the dining room table! They were driving me a bit crazy, I must confess. So it occurred to me that we could use them to decorate a gecko just like the ones in the book. I drew a gecko silhouette and made a printable in case you would like to use it too (download the printable below). We used a puncher and made confetti out of fall leaves. Then we glued the confetti around the gecko silhouette, counting the confetti and making numbers even more fun!

One of the nicest things about living in California, is the weather. It’s never too cold, and almost never too hot. That gives me the opportunity to play with a lot of layers all year round, especially during fall.

Besides being able to use boots and jackets free of guilt, I love the smells and colors that nature inspires during this season. It’s something warm, cozy but really stylish.

I’m excited to find out more about the newest fall fashion trends this year. Macy’s is hosting this amazing Fashion Front Row shopping party with music, fun and the latest looks from our favorite designers. There will be events all over the country!

I’ll be at Macy’s Valley Fair (Santa Clara, CA) this Saturday September 17th at 2:00 pm, to enjoy the shopping party and catch a fashion presentation hosted by the founder of Girl With Cures, Tanesha Awasthi, and style expert Caroline Rooney. I read that there is going to be a DIY necklace station! If you live near by, come and say hello :) I’ll be sharing more about it through Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

I can’t wait to find out more about the trends related to colors and prints for this season. I keep wanting to add fresh earthy colored pieces to my wardrobe.

RSVP to your local Macy’s store to enjoy the shopping party. Find a party near you here. The events are free!

Nature during the fall is so beautiful that I like to take inspiration and incorporate it into my home. I especially love the colors. Something about them are really cozy and charming.

If you are feeling inspired by the season as well, one way to pick the perfect color for your walls or DIY projects is to take a picture of a bunch of dry leaves or trees and use the ColorSnap® Sherwin-Williams application to find the right one for your home, just like I did in this project.

I found the perfect one. A color named Copper Harbor (SW 6634). It’s rich, cozy and brings that warm feeling I was hoping for to my living room.

For this project I looked for a few old frames in different shapes and sizes and gave them life through paint. They look renewed and fresh and the project is simple, easy and really fun.

Check out how to make a wall gallery of painted frames:

MATERIALS:

  • Old picture frames in different sizes and shapes.
  • 1 Quart of Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex Paint. Color: Copper Harbor (SW 6634). Matte
  • 1 ½” Brushes (Contractor Series® Extra Firm Angle Sash Brush).
  • Sanding sheet.
  • 1 Mil Plastic Drop Cloth.

STEPS:

1. Get a few wooden picture frames in different sizes and shapes. You can look for them in flea markets or second hand stores. Baskets and trays also look really nice and neat.

2. Start by sanding the old picture frames to remove the old paint or finish on the wood. I used a medium grain sandpaper and it worked great.

3. Apply two or three layers of paint. I love the texture of a matte finish for this project.

4. Planning where every frame should hang on a  piece of paper makes the process really easy. When you have every framed laid out on the paper, tape the piece of paper on the wall and nail through it.

5. Remove the paper and hang the frames.

Get as many frames as you want and try to pick different sizes and shapes for an interesting and playful look.
