Creating a Peaceful Master Bedroom. Before and After. Love this calm color! | Live Colorful

Bright colors are my go to. I love the way they cheer up a space. I’ve been picking bright colors for my home for a while now, I recently painted my dining room and kitchen area in a happy yellow (Lemon Twist SW 6909) ,and I fell in love with a bold blue , (Great Falls SW 6495) for the bathroom. But for my bedroom, there is something nice about picking a soft hue. It’s the calm feeling when I wake up. It’s so nice and peaceful.

My bedroom was  beige, which I honestly didn’t hate. The reason I wanted to go for a new color was because my white headboard and artwork disappeared on the beige walls. Everything looked plain and didn’t have personality.

So, before I started the project I looked for the closest Sherwin-Williams store using their store locator. I had an idea of the color I wanted to use. I looked for inspiration in the ColorSnap app, but I wanted to see the physical paint chip in the store to be able to  bring it home and see the color in my home during different times of the day.

If you haven’t been in a Sherwin-Williams store recently, you probably haven’t seen the awesome ColorSnap in-store system. The color selection is amazing and it’s so easy to pick colors since you can explore them by family like reds, yellows or blues. I just went directly to the greens and found that amazing color I was looking for, Aloe SW 6464.

The Sherwin-Williams employees are so nice. I like to ask them for suggestions. I always think that I know exactly what I need for my projects, but they always surprise me with recommendations and new materials that make everything easier and look even better than I imagined.

Just after I finished painting the bedroom I realized that I did a good job picking that soft Aloe hue. The end result is cheery, but also peaceful. It’s so perfect for a bedroom, and the great part is that the room still looks so bright.

STEPS:

  1. Prepare your surface.making sure it’s clean, dry, dull and sound.  Put the painter’s masking tape around walls, ceiling, molding and anything else you don’t want to paint to protect them. Tape the plastic drop cloth below the wall to protect your floors and furniture.
  2. Start by outlining the whole wall. For corners and other small details, you can use small brushes. I like flat brushes, like the Purdy Clearcut Swan (3″) to outline the ceiling. I like to use an angle brush for corners and small details.
  3. Apply the paint to the whole wall. You might need to add two layers of paint to get a uniform color on the whole wall.
  4. Wait until the walls are dry and remove the painter’s masking tape.

DIY: Pineapples Stamped Frame via Live Colorful

Pineapple fever! I had this idea of creating something tropical and fruity for the house. I recently bought a pair of wooden frames and I thought about just painting something pretty on them. Then food stamping got into my mind. Making fruity stamps with veggies sounded like a great way to spend an afternoon!

MATERIALS:

 STEPS:

1. Make the stamp. Begin drawing a pineapple shape using a pencil or one of those carving tools. Start carving the veggie until the pineapple shape stands out.

2. Paint the frame. I used a color named “Neon Pink”. I adore that bright hue, it’s perfect for summer.

3.  Use a brush to put paint on the stamp. Bright yellow and lime green are the ones I used.

4. Then, press the stamp on the frame.  Repeat this step until you fill the frame with lots of colorful and cute pineapples.

Let the frame dry for a few hours.

I added a black and white picture and I have to admit that I really like the contrast, this way the frame colors stand out. My new frame is on one of my coffee tables near the sofa and it looks bright and summery!

You can use food stamps for all sorts of projects: decorate furniture pieces, make greeting cards or even, spice up some of your clothes, what a great activity for the kids!

Killer Color Combo: Aquamarine and Purple

Killer Color Combo: Aquamarine and Purple via LiveColorful

Last month I visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium and I fell in love with the colors I found in the tanks. For some reason when I used to think of the sea, I would imagine lots and lots of blue tones. Maybe this time I just payed more attention to all the other colors that exist, I was fascinated by the bright hues on reefs, marine trees and iridescent ocean creatures, it was really beautiful and color inspiring!

Out there I found a pair of purple colored reefs with some lime green dots, really pretty. That inspired me to wear this new purple skirt that I found in a vintage shop with an aquamarine top.

Do you like these two? Here are some other ways you could use aquamarine and purple in decoration, beauty and how about a party!

What colorful place would you like to visit this summer?
