Beautiful Animal Art

Ana Sofia Castañon art | Live Colorful

I have been a renter for almost 8 years! And I have to confess that I kind of like the idea of decorating different homes every two years or so.

This new home that we are renting now is smaller than the last one we were living in, but we love that it is bright and it has big windows and smooth walls and ceilings. The walls are still empty, but I’m excited about filling them with special pieces of art and illustrations from friends from around the world.

My friend Ana Sofia Castañon sent me two of her pieces a few days ago. She told me these illustrations were inspired by her kids, which makes them even more special.

I know the perfect place for her pieces in my home, one is going to be above Jaxon’s dresser and the other one in a small charming nicho that is in this new home’s hall. I can’t wait to see them framed :)

Meet the Joobles! The Cutest Organic Stuffed Animals

How cute are these organic stuffed animals hand knitted by peruvian artisans! | Live Colorful

Fair Indigo contacted me a few weeks ago to share about their adorable Joobles. The Joobles are a collection of organic stuffed animals hand knitted by Peruvian artisans.

What makes them special is that the organic cotton which what they are made of is grown without GMO’s on a small family-owned farm in the climatically perfect Inca region of Peru. The dyes are Oeko-tex certified, gentle on the earth, farmers, knitters, and babies. The organic plush dolls are meticulously knit in small, worker-owned cooperatives throughout Peru, providing steady income and a better life for some of Peru’s poorest citizens.

They sent me two cute joobles that I’m planning to give to my two newborn nephews when we meet them for the first time in a few weeks over New Year’s Eve. One of my sister in law’s due dates is around Christmas day! And we are beyond excited about having two tiny new members of the family, and giving them these adorable Joobles for their new nurseries.

Check out this blog post that Fair Indigo shared about their original Joobles designer who passed away a couple of years ago. Their non profit foundation is truly making a difference at their adopted schools in Peru, and reading about this and all the kids and families that they are helping is truly inspiring.

How to Paint a Fun Chevron Pattern on Your Walls

How to paint a fun chevron pattern on your walls | Live Colorful

I really like the color of my kid’s bedroom. The room was already painted with that hue when we moved in and we decided to keep it that way. It’s an unusual shade for a toddler, but it works great as a neutral canvas for all the colorful toys that are laying around the room.

There is just one problem with this shade of gray-blue, it darkens the space.

So I decided to add a lighter color that will balance the light in the room. At first, I was just going to paint the whole wall in white. But then, I was inspired by the idea of painting some waves, that would look great with the acrylic octopus mobile that my son has above his crib. My son is really into animals, and water, so I knew it was going to be perfect.

Instead of covering the whole wall, I brainstormed and came up with a simple chevron pattern that simulates waves, and looks versatile and modern.

MATERIALS:

  • 1 gallon of Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex Paint. Sheen: Matte. Color: Snowbound SW 7004
  • ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape Delicate Surfaces with Advanced Edge-Lock

STEPS:

  1. Start by measuring the wall and planning the pattern so everything looks geometrical.
  2. Measure, mark and use the painter’s tape to trace the pattern.
  3. Apply the paint.
  4. Wait few minutes after you finish painting and remove the tape. Do it carefully to avoid pulling up any paint.

The wall looks great, and the white pattern actually lightens up the room. I also moved things around in the bedroom, so everything looks new and fresh! How to paint a fun chevron pattern on your walls | Live Colorful
