How to Paint a Fun Chevron Pattern on Your Walls

How to paint a fun chevron pattern on your walls | Live Colorful

I really like the color of my kid’s bedroom. The room was already painted with that hue when we moved in and we decided to keep it that way. It’s an unusual shade for a toddler, but it works great as a neutral canvas for all the colorful toys that are laying around the room.

There is just one problem with this shade of gray-blue, it darkens the space.

So I decided to add a lighter color that will balance the light in the room. At first, I was just going to paint the whole wall in white. But then, I was inspired by the idea of painting some waves, that would look great with the acrylic octopus mobile that my son has above his crib. My son is really into animals, and water, so I knew it was going to be perfect.

Instead of covering the whole wall, I brainstormed and came up with a simple chevron pattern that simulates waves, and looks versatile and modern.

STEPS:

  1. Start by measuring the wall and planning the pattern so everything looks geometrical.
  2. Measure, mark and use the painter’s tape to trace the pattern.
  3. Apply the paint.
  4. Wait few minutes after you finish painting and remove the tape. Do it carefully to avoid pulling up any paint.

The wall looks great, and the white pattern actually lightens up the room. I also moved things around in the bedroom, so everything looks new and fresh! How to paint a fun chevron pattern on your walls | Live Colorful

How to Make an Amazing Easy Bean Bag Chair | El tutorial más fácil para hacer un sillón puff | Live Colorful

I’m excited to share a new project created in collaboration with Digital Fabrics. It’s an amazing simple DIY tutorial to make a bean bag chair using 2 meters of heavyweight fabric (147 cm wide). I used one of my favorites designs from the LIVE COLORFUL collection, named cheery.

I was inspired by a simple tutorial that I found in Pinterest. I used the idea, but added some fun curves to make it look more organic. It was such a fun project and so easy to make!

MATERIAL:

  1. 2 meters of heavyweight fabric. I used waratah drill (147 cm wide). Design: Cheery.
  2. 2 packs of bean bag chair refill (100 Liter refill bags) (affiliate link)
  3. Sewing machine
  4. Thread
  5. Scissors
  6. Pins

STEPS:

  1. Fold the fabric and measure approximately 30 cm on one side of the fabric. Cut a curve.
  2. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise again. Measure approximately 15 cm on one side of the fabric. Cut a small curve.
  3. When you unfold your fabric, it should look like this.
  4. Then fold the fabric again, but backwards and add a few pins to keep the fabric in place.
  5. It’s time to start sewing!
  6. First, sew those two sides of the bean bag and leave an opening of about 20 cm to be able to fill the bean bag later.
  7. Fold the fabric again, so you can see the front of the bean bag. Add pins and sew to close the bean bag.
  8. Use a zigzag stitch to sew along the raw edge of your hem.
  9. Turn the fabric inside out and start filling the bean bag!
  10. Hand sew the bean bag closed.

Tip:

You can make a bean bag liner using the same tutorial so you can wash the bean bag later 😉

How to Paint Perfect Polka Dots

Posted by

A few months ago, I got together with some friends to make some kitchen helper step up for the kids using a tutorial my friend found on Pinterest. It was such a fun project, but it ended up being more challenging that we thought. It took us a few weeks to finish it, and when it was ready, I was too tired to paint it.

This week finally made some time to add some color to this step up and it looks better than ever.

I used a trick to make perfect polka dots using some decorative wall decals that I found on Amazon. You can use the same technique to paint walls, and even make interesting shapes using different wall decal designs!

Check out how I paint the polka dots in the video tutorial below:

STEPS:

  1. Prepare your surface. Sand and clean your piece of furniture so it’s ready for painting.
  2. Apply the first layer of paint. This will be the color of your polka dots.
  3. Add the polka dots decorative wall decals all over your piece of furniture.
  4. Apply a second layer of paint. This will be the color of your whole piece of furniture. Let the paint dry for a few hours.
  5. Now the magic happens! Remove the wall decals carefully. Now you have awesome polka dots all over the place!
