How to Make Giant Colorful Paper Flowers | Live Colorful

I have been wanting to make a fun paper flower display for my studio for a long time. I wanted to create something colorful that would cheer me up while in crafting. So when Hobby Lobby invited me to participate in this campaign, I got extremely excited. I knew it was the perfect excuse to bring the outdoors in with beautiful Spring colors and textures.

So I took a trip to my local Hobby Lobby to get all the material. I honestly could spend hours in their paper craft section, the cardstock displays look like rainbows! But I needed to focus, and after a couple of minutes wandering, I finally decided to take home a couple 12 x 12 sturdy cardstock in varying textures and colors.

I got home and I started brainstorming about the project. At first I wanted to make one giant flower of each color, but then I thought mixing all the colors and textures in one flower would create a more interesting effect, and I was so right!

Check out the easy steps so you can create your own indoor floral display to decorate your home or to make a  pretty photo backdrop for an upcoming spring party.

MATERIAL (to make one flower):

  • Cardstock. I used 12 x 12 inch cardstock in seven different colors. Six different colors for the petals and one white cardstock for the center of the flower.
  • Printer paper sheets. I used three sheets to sketch the petals
  • Exacto knife
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun and sticks
  • Ruler
  • Pencil

STEPS:

Step 1: Draw three different sizes of petals on white printer paper sheets to make molds.

Step 2: Mark the center of the 12 x 12 inch cardstock and draw the petals using the mold.

Step 3 and 4: Mark an X that cross the flowers in the middle and mark it pressing gently with the exacto knife. That is going to help fold the petals to create an interesting 3D texture.

Step 5: Cut the flowers leaving the petals connected by the center.

Step 6: In total you should have six flowers. Two flowers of each size of petal.

Step 7: Glue the flowers together. I started with the biggest petals to the smallest ones and I arranged them so you can appreciate all the six colors.

Tape your giant colorful flowers on the wall and start enjoying them!

TIPS:

To make the center of the petal use the white cardstock or a white printer paper sheet and draw skinny long petals of about ¼” x 1” and connect them with a skinny line just like the pictures below. Then roll them and glue them together. You can also use giant pom poms as the center of the flowers!

I wanted to share this simple idea about how to make rainbow (extra colorful) pancakes to celebrate with your boyfriend, husband, friends and all the special people in your life this Valentine’s day.

The recipe is pretty simple and looks adorable. You can easily make tons of them in case you are hosting a brunch with friends or just to surprise the whole family in the morning.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Pancake mix
  • Food coloring (as many colors as you want to create)
  • Plastic or glass bowls (One for each color)
  • Strawberries
  • Heart shaped cookie cutter

STEPS:

  1. Read instructions on the pancake box and make the mix.
  2. When it’s ready, pour the mix into the bowls.
  3. Add one or two drops of food coloring in each bowl. Add more drops if you want the color to be more intense.
  4. Mix the food coloring using some spoons until the color looks uniform.
  5. It’s time to make the pancakes! Heat the pan, add a drop of butter and start cooking the pancakes.
  6. When the pancakes are ready, use the cookie cutter to give them a heart shape.
  7. Cut the strawberries in a heart shape too using a knife. Check out the video to see how I did it (The video is in Spanish but it will give you a better idea of all the steps and how they look)
  8. Add whipped cream on the top and decorate each pancake plate using the strawberries.

Aren’t these adorable and delicious? I know you will love the idea.

Use pom poms to add color and personality to a boring old plain dress you already have sitting around the house.

I wanted to start this summer with a white dress and I decided to make it from scratch since I couldn’t find one I liked in the stores. The funny part is that it took me longer than I thought and when it was finally done, I discovered that it looked a bit plain and boring.  Luckily I found some colorful pom poms in my drawer and thought they would give that dress the fun look and personality I was hoping for.

With the pom poms the dress looks so much better. I wore it two days ago and loved how fun and quirky it looks, it definitely made me feel happy.

MATERIALS:

  • A basic dress preferably in a solid color
  • Colorful 1/2-Inch Pom Poms
  • Needle and thread or glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Lace. I used about 4 meters (157 inches)

STEPS

  1. Sew or glue the pompoms on one by one. I left a about 3cm (1.5inches) between each but you can put them closer if you want.
  2. You can also glue or sew lace along the edge of your dress as a cute detail and complement to the pompoms. It was a last minute idea but I definitely loved how they look together.
