A Beautiful Rich Brown Wall

A Beautiful Rich Brown Wall | Live Colorful

I’ve been seeing beautiful homes painted with dark walls all over the internet. I was captivated by the mysterious and interesting effect, and I really wanted to create something similar in my own living room.

Just after looking at Sherwin Williams color forecast colormix™ 2017, I got obsessed with a color named Deep Forest Brown SW 9175 from the holistic  palette and it’s coordinating colors. I searched for spaces painted with that color on Pinterest to have a better idea of how it would look, and I started to get excited because the spaces looked amazing!

One of the things I was most excited about picking a neutral dark shade, was that I knew it would work great as a base for colorful accessories. This intense brown would also let me play with many color palettes throughout the years with no problem. I also feet that brown was a perfect color for an eclectic home decor style. It compliments most furniture styles and finishes, and well, that’s kind of what I had at home, a mix of modern furniture with ethnic accessories.

Just after I finished painting the first layer, I could see the transformation. It was so exciting.

  • Multi surface blue painter’s tape

STEPS:

  1. Prepare your surface to make sure it is clean, dry and sound. Tape off moldings, light switches, electrical connectors, and cover the floors and furniture with a plastic drop cloth.
  2. Let’s paint! I like to start painting the edges all around the wall with an angled brush. Then, I use the roller to cover the whole wall. When you go from a light color to a dark color or vice versa, you can apply a layer of multi-purpose latex primer to cover the base color. When going from a light to dark color, you can ask the store employees to tint the primer to make it darker. That will make the process easier, it will give you a smooth finish and better coverage. I applied two layers of the Deep Forest Brown SW 9175 and waited about 4 hours between coats.
  3. Clean up Time. Remove the painters tape as soon as you finish painting to avoid ripping away the paint. You can use a small brush to fix any mistakes.

How to Paint a Fun Chevron Pattern on Your Walls

How to paint a fun chevron pattern on your walls | Live Colorful

I really like the color of my kid’s bedroom. The room was already painted with that hue when we moved in and we decided to keep it that way. It’s an unusual shade for a toddler, but it works great as a neutral canvas for all the colorful toys that are laying around the room.

There is just one problem with this shade of gray-blue, it darkens the space.

So I decided to add a lighter color that will balance the light in the room. At first, I was just going to paint the whole wall in white. But then, I was inspired by the idea of painting some waves, that would look great with the acrylic octopus mobile that my son has above his crib. My son is really into animals, and water, so I knew it was going to be perfect.

Instead of covering the whole wall, I brainstormed and came up with a simple chevron pattern that simulates waves, and looks versatile and modern.

STEPS:

  1. Start by measuring the wall and planning the pattern so everything looks geometrical.
  2. Measure, mark and use the painter’s tape to trace the pattern.
  3. Apply the paint.
  4. Wait few minutes after you finish painting and remove the tape. Do it carefully to avoid pulling up any paint.

The wall looks great, and the white pattern actually lightens up the room. I also moved things around in the bedroom, so everything looks new and fresh! How to paint a fun chevron pattern on your walls | Live Colorful

Meet Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2017

Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2017: Poised Taupe (SW 6039). Es clásico y moderno a la vez, el balance perfecto entre cálido y frío.

When I moved to Asheville, North Carolina, I felt captivated by the warm tones that covered the streets of the city during fall.

I arrived with the idea of painting our new apartment in a cool gray tone, but the warmth of the place made me decide for a cozy brown named Mocha (SW 6067).

I painted just a few walls with Mocha (SW 6067), and that was enough to create an intimate and comfy space that we loved for years. However, I dreamt constantly about cool gray walls, something about it made me think of modern and stylish spaces, and I wanted that feeling in my apartment too.

Last week, Sherwin-Williams announced Poised Taupe (SW 6039), as the 2017 Color of the Year. This modern take on a timeless classic is that color I dreamt about 6 years ago, when I moved to Asheville, North Carolina! A beautiful neutral that brings warm and cool tones together to create one irresistibly versatile color.

“Poised Taupe celebrates everything people love about cool gray as a neutral, and also brings in the warmth of brown, taking the color to an entirely new level. Not cool or warm, or gray or brown, Poised Taupe is a weathered, woodsy neutral bringing a sense of coziness and harmony that people are seeking,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing for Sherwin-Williams.

A Sherwin-Williams team traveled the world to identify the latest color. From there, they discovered that the neutrals are in a transition from monochrome gray of the past five years to a more complex brown.

The current trends related to natural, organic influences and earthy tones also inspired the selection of this color as a winner for this upcoming year. “Consumers crave spaces where they feel welcome and welcome to get in. The brown earth combined with a conservative gray, creating Poised Taupe, embodies all these emotions,” said Wadden.

TIP: You can incorporate interesting details around your home in bright colors, like the orange bowls and fresh flowers in the image above, so your space always looks fresh and happy.

COLOR PALETTE INSPIRATION:

You can pair Poised Taupe with many rich colors. Some favorites are Stardew (SW 9138), a vibrant Rave Red (SW 6608), a deep teal like Marea Baja (SW 9185) or a sunny hued Bee (SW 6683).
