The holiday season inspires to celebrate a life full of unique moments and beautiful people that has crossed our path. Let's celebrate those friendships together with Hallmark Vida! | Live Colorful

It’s that time of year again, when we go shop for a Christmas tree, or in our case, take it out of the box, and the memories of all those people who have been and still are a part of our lives begin to come to mind.

My friend Edith, is probably the first person that I think of during this season. I always think about her and all the amazing memories we created together. I traveled with her to the Southern Hemisphere, from Mexico to Chile when we were just 19 years old. We lived together in this tiny bedroom in a beautiful city named Viña del Mar. When we moved together, we didn’t know each other very much, and we had no idea we were about to live some of the best months of our lives. I always think about our sleepless nights, and how we used to go to parties and then back to our room to finish art or design projects for the next day’s classes. It was crazy and so much fun.

When we went back to Mexico, we continued to see each other often at college, we took the same classes and even managed to travel together a few more times around Mexico. I remember the day I told her that I was moving to the United States with my boyfriend, who is my husband now. It was one of the hardest things. It broke my heart to know that I was not going to see her very often and that our lives as we knew them, were about to change a lot.

A few months later she moved to another city in Mexico too, but even from a distance we managed to stay in touch.

Then, two and a half years ago, Edith called me to let me know that she was pregnant. I remember thinking, this is crazy, I just had taken a pregnancy test and it was positive! We talked on a video chat probably for an hour. I started to imagine our babies playing together, and if they were going to be two boys, two girls, boy and girl? Then five months later I traveled to Mexico and I got the opportunity to see her again because she was back in town too. We spent a whole weekend together at my parents home, like old times, staying awake until midnight, waking up late, going to the beach for a walk, talking about college, about Chile, about our trips around Mexico and about our hopes and dreams, but not for us, for our babies.

My son Jaxon was born on February 9 and Edith’s daughter, Isabella on February 14, just five days later.

Thinking about all of these memories made me realize that life can be funny sometimes, it brings us incredible surprises, like the opportunity of experiencing motherhood at the same time as my best friend.

How do you celebrate a friendship like that? Hallmark Vida makes it look easy, by creating holiday greeting cards and ornaments that simply express that sincere affection. Hallmark Vida cards and ornaments are also in Spanish. Being able to send a card in my native language feels incredibly special. The message in Hallmark Vida greeting cards has the exact words I used to say to family and friends. Reading them brings back memories, and that makes them even more unique and personal. All my friends who speak Spanish would know that, there is nothing like reading un te quiero mucho, Feliz Navidad or tu amistad me ha regalado tanto!

I wrote a card to Edith last night. I put it in the mail this morning. I hope that it surprises her and hugs her from far away.

The Day of the Dead is one of my favorite celebrations. I love it not only because it is so colorful, but also because it makes me think about my family, and traditions I grew up with in Mexico. So every year I feel excited about creating something inspired by the Day of the Dead to decorate my home and make the ofrenda for my grandpa, aunts and friends.

Sugar skulls are probably one of my favorite elements from the Day of the Dead’s celebration. These calaveritas are sometimes difficult to find in the United States. For that reason we made our own version of sugar skull using white chocolate in the past years. You can find the tutorials here and here in case you would like to make some, which I totally recommend because making chocolate sugar skulls is so much fun, especially for the kids!

If you are not into buying or making sugar skulls, what about printing them? I painted these calaveritas the other day, I shared them on Instagram and asked about what should I make with them and one of the first suggestions was that they would look super cute as cupcake toppers. So I put together a free printable that you can download, print and use to decorate cupcakes, muffins, gifts and other things that come to mind this Halloween and Day of the Dead.

How Are You Going To Celebrate Piñata Day?

The cutest mini piñatas | Live Colorful

In honor of Piñata Day, I’m sharing my favorite handmade mini piñatas created by J Balloon Fiesta. I met this talented lady at We All Grow 2017 conference a few months ago. She is extremely talented, creative and made me feel inspired after seeing her passion for her business and family.

She sent me these three adorable designs from her shop. Frida Kahlo piñata, lucha libre piñata y señorita cactus piñata. She is now making postcards and stickers with empowering funny quotes related to the piñatas such as “señorita nopal, soy mujer tocame y verás” and  “lucha por tus Sueños”. They are super cute!
