I really enjoy making time to work on something creative with my son. It’s great because I know that through art and creativity, he will learn tons of new things about colors, shapes, history, nature, science and almost anything he can imagine, and at the same time, I get to spend precious quality time with him which is amazing.

The other day, I went to my local 7Eleven to buy a few bottles of LIFEWTR and went back home. Their amazing labels inspired me to create something fun that afternoon, and Jaxon got excited about the idea when I showed him the LIFEWTR and Scholastic kit that I got the other day. He was asking me to play with the sheets of paper since I got home with the kit, but I wanted to wait until I had an idea of something that we could create together with the material in in the box.

LIFEWTR is doing a fantastic job showcasing emerging artists on their bottles. They believe, just like me, that creativity and inspiration is as essential to life as water.

This kit that LIFEWTR and Scholastic created, includes art lessons and activities that motivate the little ones to explore techniques for illustrating characters, stenciling collages, and creating inked black-and-white designs with color blocking using printed pages with the artwork of three young artists.

Jaxon and I decided to make a collage for his room using the colorful paper sheets. The idea was so simple, but perfect for his age, and the end result was super fun and cheerful!

MATERIAL:

  • Printed paper sheets included in the the LIFEWTR and Scholastic kit
  • Stencils included in the the LIFEWTR and Scholastic kit
  • 1 Thick white paper sheet
  • Glue
  • Scissors

STEPS:

  1. Use the stencils to draw shapes on the back of the colorful paper included in the LIFEWTR and Scholastic kit.
  2. Cut the shapes.
  3. Place the shapes on the white paper sheet creating a design you like. Then glue all the pieces down.

We actually designed something really simple, that was appropriate for a preschooler. If your kids are older, let them play with the stencils and use as many shapes as they want. Gluing different shapes together or one on top of other is a great way to make something unique and neat.

Find these amazing LIFEWTR bottles at your local 7ElevenEvery few months you will see a new series of LIFEWTR bottles focusing on a unique aspect of art, and putting the spotlight on three new artists. The next one is the Series 5 ‘Art Beyond Borders’ bottles and I’m sure it’s going to be super colorful. To see bottles and artwork from the past series check out their site here.

How to Make a Meaningful New Year’s Wish Jar

How to make a simple but meaningful New Year's wish jar | Live Colorful

I’m one of those people who loves to think about New Year’s resolutions in advance. Unfortunately, I think about them, write them in a pretty notebook, read them a few times during the first month of the new year and then forget about them. Last year I wrote too many on the list, and the whole idea felt overwhelming!

A few months ago, for Father’s Day, Jaxon and I decided to make a wish jar for my husband. We actually named it “building memories” and it was a bunch of legos with all the things Jaxon would love to do with dad during the year. Go camping, watch a boy’s movie together, jumping in mud and things like that were on the list. It was such a simple idea, but a really meaningful gift that my hubby loved.

For this New Year’s Eve I got the idea of making something similar. I made the whole family sit down and think about 12 things that we would love to accomplish, make, visit, create or experience this year. We made a list and put it in the jar. The idea is that every first day of the month we would take one “wish” out of the jar, and do it!

Go to Ojai, California, bring orange slices to a Jaxon’s soccer game, taekwondo tournament, or other sports thing he can do when he turns three!, run a 5k as a family and things like that are on the list. It’s exciting, and I appreciate that they are specific and easy to accomplish “wishes”.

We can’t wait to start picking one each month, because we keep saying that we would love to do these things, but always forget. This is a great way to push ourselves to have fun as a family in a special way each month.

Crafting for the holidays is so much fun, especially when you have supplies that make the process easy!

I’m collaborating with Love+Lemon Craft Co to inspire you to make a sparkly, shiny and festive banner for your New Year’s Eve party.

This garland was the easiest one I have ever made in my life! Seriously, Love+Lemon Craft Co pennant banner pads had everything I needed inside their kit. All I had to do is to detach every paper pad, remove the punched holes and pass the twine through. To write “Happy New Year” I used some sparkly alphabet stickers and I decorated the garland when it was ready with a couple of silver rayon tassels on the sides.

Putting together the garland took me no more than 15 minutes, so I had time to plan another crafty project! When I saw the tassels the first thing I thought was that they would look adorable as earrings. So I got a pair or earrings hooks and attached them to the tassels. This pair ended up looking super cute and extra festive! Perfect to receive the new year with sparkles and style!
