How to Make Giant Colorful Paper Flowers | Live Colorful

I have been wanting to make a fun paper flower display for my studio for a long time. I wanted to create something colorful that would cheer me up while in crafting. So when Hobby Lobby invited me to participate in this campaign, I got extremely excited. I knew it was the perfect excuse to bring the outdoors in with beautiful Spring colors and textures.

So I took a trip to my local Hobby Lobby to get all the material. I honestly could spend hours in their paper craft section, the cardstock displays look like rainbows! But I needed to focus, and after a couple of minutes wandering, I finally decided to take home a couple 12 x 12 sturdy cardstock in varying textures and colors.

I got home and I started brainstorming about the project. At first I wanted to make one giant flower of each color, but then I thought mixing all the colors and textures in one flower would create a more interesting effect, and I was so right!

Check out the easy steps so you can create your own indoor floral display to decorate your home or to make a  pretty photo backdrop for an upcoming spring party.

MATERIAL (to make one flower):

  • Cardstock. I used 12 x 12 inch cardstock in seven different colors. Six different colors for the petals and one white cardstock for the center of the flower.
  • Printer paper sheets. I used three sheets to sketch the petals
  • Exacto knife
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun and sticks
  • Ruler
  • Pencil

STEPS:

Step 1: Draw three different sizes of petals on white printer paper sheets to make molds.

Step 2: Mark the center of the 12 x 12 inch cardstock and draw the petals using the mold.

Step 3 and 4: Mark an X that cross the flowers in the middle and mark it pressing gently with the exacto knife. That is going to help fold the petals to create an interesting 3D texture.

Step 5: Cut the flowers leaving the petals connected by the center.

Step 6: In total you should have six flowers. Two flowers of each size of petal.

Step 7: Glue the flowers together. I started with the biggest petals to the smallest ones and I arranged them so you can appreciate all the six colors.

Tape your giant colorful flowers on the wall and start enjoying them!

TIPS:

To make the center of the petal use the white cardstock or a white printer paper sheet and draw skinny long petals of about ¼” x 1” and connect them with a skinny line just like the pictures below. Then roll them and glue them together. You can also use giant pom poms as the center of the flowers!

How to Make a Cute Mexican Axolotl Costume for Your Dog

Make a cute mexican axolotl costume for your dog this Halloween! | Como hacer un disfraz increiblemente adorable de ajolote (axolotl) mexicano para tu perro. (VIDEO TUTORIAL) | Live Colorful

Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos are almost here! Every year I create a Halloween costume for my dog. I love the creative challenge of creating a costume, and my dog loves the attention that he receives when he is wearing the costume. We enjoy participating in local festivals, and I hope this year we can win one of the dog costume contest! This is the costume that I created last year:How to Make a Unicorn Costume for your Dog. It has been so popular that had been featured in Woman’s Day, Country Living and many other blogs and online magazines.

This year I wanted to make a costume that mixes both of both celebrations, Halloween, and Day of the Dead. That made me think of an animal that looks like a monster called a Mexican axolotl.

We learned of these little creatures a few years ago when my sister came to visit me to Mexico City. We decided to take a tour through Xochimilco and during the tour we learn a little about its vegetation, traditional culture, indigenous heritage, and these endangered species. The word axolotl or ajolote comes from the Nahuatl axolotl word that means “water monster”. It is a very ugly animal, but that makes it incredibly adorable, especially if it inspires a costume for your dog this Halloween!

Check out the video so you can make one for your dog too!

MATERIALS

  • 1 meter of iridescent fabric (red or orange)
  • 1 meter of fringe
  • ½ meter double-sided velcro tape
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine or needle

How to Make an Amazing Easy Bean Bag Chair

How to Make an Amazing Easy Bean Bag Chair | El tutorial más fácil para hacer un sillón puff | Live Colorful

I’m excited to share a new project created in collaboration with Digital Fabrics. It’s an amazing simple DIY tutorial to make a bean bag chair using 2 meters of heavyweight fabric (147 cm wide). I used one of my favorites designs from the LIVE COLORFUL collection, named cheery.

I was inspired by a simple tutorial that I found in Pinterest. I used the idea, but added some fun curves to make it look more organic. It was such a fun project and so easy to make!

MATERIAL:

  1. 2 meters of heavyweight fabric. I used waratah drill (147 cm wide). Design: Cheery.
  2. 2 packs of bean bag chair refill (100 Liter refill bags) (affiliate link)
  3. Sewing machine
  4. Thread
  5. Scissors
  6. Pins

STEPS:

  1. Fold the fabric and measure approximately 30 cm on one side of the fabric. Cut a curve.
  2. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise again. Measure approximately 15 cm on one side of the fabric. Cut a small curve.
  3. When you unfold your fabric, it should look like this.
  4. Then fold the fabric again, but backwards and add a few pins to keep the fabric in place.
  5. It’s time to start sewing!
  6. First, sew those two sides of the bean bag and leave an opening of about 20 cm to be able to fill the bean bag later.
  7. Fold the fabric again, so you can see the front of the bean bag. Add pins and sew to close the bean bag.
  8. Use a zigzag stitch to sew along the raw edge of your hem.
  9. Turn the fabric inside out and start filling the bean bag!
  10. Hand sew the bean bag closed.

Tip:

You can make a bean bag liner using the same tutorial so you can wash the bean bag later 😉
