DIY: How to Make Homemade Face Paint

If you’ve forgotten to pick up Halloween face paint kits from the store, don’t worry! This easy homemade face paint using eyeshadows is a fantastic alternative.

Last Friday, I went to a laid-back Halloween party with some friends. Given the casual vibe of the event, I decided to get a bit creative with what I had on hand and put together a flower fairy costume—at least, that was the idea. I didn’t have many supplies at home, but I remembered a clever trick a friend had shared with me a while back. So, I added a touch of fun by painting a few delicate flowers on my face using that technique.

It turns out that this homemade face paint is a fantastic solution if you find yourself scrambling at the last minute without a store-bought Halloween kit, or if you just want to add a touch of creativity with minimal effort. It’s simple, effective, and perfect for those spontaneous costume moments!

How to Make Your Own Face Paint This Halloween?

1.Prepare the Base

  • Begin by using a cotton swab to transfer a small amount of Vaseline into a plastic container.

  • I found that a Tupperware lid works exceptionally well for this purpose, providing just the right amount of space and ease of use. If you don’t have a Tupperware lid, any small, clean container will do.

    2. Mix the Color

  • Take a small brush and gently scrape a bit of highly pigmented eyeshadow from its container.

  • Carefully pour the eyeshadow powder onto the Vaseline in the plastic container. Start with a small amount of eyeshadow and add more as needed.

  • Using the brush to mix the eyeshadow into the Vaseline thoroughly. Continue blending until you achieve a smooth, even consistency and the color reaches your desired shade. If you want a more intense color, simply add more eyeshadow; for a softer shade, use less.

    3. Apply in Face

  • Once you have your custom face paint ready, use a clean cotton swab or your fingers to start applying it to your face. The application process is straightforward and flexible, allowing you to create various designs and effects.

  • Have fun experimenting with different looks and enjoy your personalized, homemade face paint!

This homemade face paint is not only simple to make but also easy to clean up. You can remove it effortlessly with makeup remover wipes or wash it off with soap and water. Plus, it’s gentle on the skin and durable enough to last through your Halloween festivities.

While there are various DIY face paint recipes out there, I particularly love this one because it’s so straightforward and uses just two ingredients that you likely already have at home. It’s a quick and convenient option for achieving a great look with minimal fuss.
