What Does Color Sound Like?

Neil Harbisson: I listen to color via Ted Talks

My little brother has been using his free time to learn how to produce music for a long time. Recently he called me to show me his new Facebook page and some of his first pieces which was pretty cool. I’ve always found it strange that he was so interested in music because well, no one else in the family is really into music, just him. Still, all of us think that it’s pretty cool that he is so motivated about his passion.

That same day we started to talk about this video that I found a long time ago but had forgotten to share.

This artist, Neil Harbisson, was born with a condition called achromatopsia, which basically means that he was born completely color blind. In the video he talks about how he discovered the sound of colors through a device attached to his head that turns color into audible frequencies. He creates some colorful art pieces based on some popular pieces like Mozart and even songs by Justin Bieber.

Can you imagine being able to capture your favorite tune on canvas? How do you think it would look? Which colors would it have?

Pretty cool, huh?
