How to Make a Color Coded Snack Tray

DIY

Check out this cute craft project that will add color and cheer up your snack table in any celebration.

The other day we were pulling out material from the closet to work on another project and we found a circular piece of wood that I bought a few months back for no real reason. It looked like something that I could use in the kitchen or something.

First, I thought it would work as pot holder, then I had the idea that it could be an awesome snack tray, but not before adding some color to make it look more cheerful and fun of course.

It was a 5 minute craft project and we couldn’t be happier with the result!

This colorful tray will be perfect to display and organize snacks in any celebration. You could also use it below a flower vase and as a centerpiece.

  • Wooden round plaque like this one or these ones here, or circular wooden cutting board

  • Acrylic paint

  • Brushes

  • Mod podge. Check out that is food and dishwasher safe like this one here

Tip:

Use colors that have a contrast with the natural wood color of your plaque or cutting board so they stand out. Instead of yellow or orange, use turquoise, pink and green. These tones will look super bright and cheerful.

How to make a color coded tray for snacks:

  1. Clean the wood plaque or cutting board. Start by cleaning the wood plaque or cutting board using a dry cloth to remove any dirt or dust.

  2. Create your color coded design. Use a pencil to delineate where you want each color around your wood plaque or cutting board., You could also use painters tape or washi tape to delineate each space while you are painting.

  3. Paint your tray. Start painting the edges of your new tray for snacks using acrylic paint. You might needd to add two or three layers of each color until they cover the wood completely. Let the paint dry for a couple of hours.

  4. Apply a protective sealer. Use a sealer like mod podge safe for food and dishwasher safe and apply a layer to protect your snack tray from dust and to be able to clean liquids easily.

Use this colorful color coded snack tray during those summer celebrations with friends. Each space can delineate where to put specific food, like one color for each type of cheese, or one color for fruit, one for cheese and one for crackers, etc.

You can also use this wood plaque below a flower vase or as a pot holder. It’s fun and will definitely add something interesting to your happy colorful home.
