How to Make a Fabric Tassel Garland

Make cheerful fabric tassel garlands to decorate your bedroom or brighten up a special occasion.

I recently saw some tissue paper tassels on Pinterest that I really wanted to make for my apartment. The one I saw were made out of paper, which made me feel that they would not last very long, so instead I decided to make my own tassels using fabric!

I used a couple scraps of fabric I had lying around the apartment, and the tassels turned out really great. I really love how they give that feeling that you’re throwing a party every day, which makes me feel happy and energetic, exactly how I need to feel since I work from home and I spend a lot of time in the house.

They are really easy to make and add a lot of fun to any space. They are also perfect to decorate your bedroom or any special occasion!

MATERIALS:

  • Fabric. Look for fabrics that are a bit heavy so they hang out nicely. Also look for fabrics that doesn’t fray because they will last longer.

  • Yarn or ribbons (To be able to tie the tassels individually)

  • Decorative ribbon (This ribbon will be used to decorate and tie all the tassels together)

  • Fabric scissors

How to Make a Fabric Tassel Garland:

  1. Cut fabric squares. Start by cutting a couple squares of fabric that measures approximately 16 x 16 inches.

  2. Fold your fabric. Fold the 16 x 16 inches squares into a 8 x 16 inch rectangles like the image below.

3. Cut the fabric. Make some cuts in the folded fabric making strips that are about 1 inch wide. Don’t forget to leave approximately 2 inches on the top uncut to tie and create your tassel later.

4. Create the tassel. Tie the piece of fabric using the uncut part with yarn or ribbon to create one tassel. Cut the extra piece of yarn or ribbon.

4. Create your tassel garland. Use the decorative ribbon to tie all the tassels together leaving about 4 inches in between each tassel.

Listo! your fabric tassels are ready to go :) they are amazing decorations for birthday parties and other celebrations. You can also add them above your bed frame in your bedroom as a cheerful detail.

Be creative with the fabric and colors you choose and we hope this tutorial was helpful and inspiring :)
