Getting the Home Ready for Halloween

Make a candle holder with a sparkly spider web and get your home ready for Halloween!

I’m not use to add much black and orange in my Halloween craft projects. I think they look really cool, but I'm more of a bright colors person so I always add pink or turquoise for some reason, and I'm pretty much obsessed with childish ghosts, spiders, and colorful spooky things.

This year my husband pushed me to try something new since it's our first Halloween as a family of three. We want to start involving our baby in the traditions we grow up with. Day of the Dead is my thing. Jordan, my husband, is more about Halloween. So this year I'm decorating the house with some orange and black items and other stuff that just scream traditional Halloween!

I received some creepy-chic candles from Yankee Candle and I was suddenly inspired. I added them around the apartment, on the kitchen counter and the coffee table, and I made space in a corner to add some spooky decorations.

Because you need to be as careful as you can when you're setting up your Halloween decorations, especially candles and fabric, I decided to make a candle holder that adds a little protection and makes space between the candle and the fabric. But this candle holder has a special spooky touch, a sparkly spider web!

Check out how to make one below.

How to Make a Candle Holder with Sparkly Spider Web:

    1. Paint your wooden plaque. Start by painting the wooden plaque with a solid color. I used two layers of orange acrylic paint. I actually added some painters tape too, so it left some lines with visible wood on the square plaque when I removed the tape. I just wanted to leave some of the wood visible, but you can totally paint the whole plaque completely. Let it dry for a couple of hours.

    2. Draw a spider web. When the solid color is dry, start by drawing a simple spider web. To create the spider web draw an asterisk first, and then draw some curves connecting in every part of the asterisk. I used black acrylic paint to draw the spider web.

    3. Add the sparkles! Apply mod podge over the whole spider web, just on top of the black paint using a skinny brush and then threw black glitter on top for a sparkly finish.

I put a piece of fabric over my furniture and placed the candle holder with other candles and accessories.

I'm really happy to have my home ready for Halloween and looking so good and traditional. Now I just need to pick some pumpkins and add them to our decorations too!
