Creating a Peaceful Master Bedroom

DIY

Check out this beautiful bedroom decor transformation using Sherwin Williams color, Aloe SW 6464.

Bright colors are my go to. I love the way they cheer up a space. I’ve been picking bright colors for my home for a while now, I recently painted my dining room and kitchen area in a happy yellow (Lemon Twist SW 6909), and I fell in love with a bold blue, (Great Falls SW 6495) for my bathroom. But for my bedroom, there is something nice about picking a soft hue. It’s the calm feeling when I wake up. It’s so nice and peaceful.

My bedroom was beige, which I honestly didn't hate. The reason I wanted to add a new color for an accent wall was because my white headboard and artwork disappeared on the beige walls. Everything looked plain and didn’t have personality.

So, before I started the project I looked for the closest Sherwin-Williams store using their store locator. I had an idea of the color I wanted to use. I looked for inspiration in the ColorSnap app, but I wanted to see the physical paint chip in the store to be able to bring it home and see the color in my home during different times of the day.

If you haven’t been in a Sherwin-Williams store recently, you probably haven’t seen the awesome ColorSnap in-store system. The color selection is amazing and it’s so easy to pick colors since you can explore them by family like reds, yellows or blues. I just went directly to the greens and found that amazing color I was looking for, Aloe SW 6464.

The Sherwin-Williams employees are so nice. I like to ask them for suggestions. I always think that I know exactly what I need for my projects, but they always surprise me with recommendations and new materials that make everything easier and look even better than I imagined.

Just after I finished painting the bedroom I realized that I did a good job picking that soft Aloe hue. The end result is cheery, but also peaceful. It’s so perfect for a bedroom, and the great part is that the room still looks so bright.

Before and after this bedroom color decor transformation. It’s so pretty and calm!

MATERIALS:

  • 1 gallon of Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex Paint. Sheen: Matte. Color: SW 6464 Aloe.

  • 1 Purdy® White Dove™ Roller Cover- What size? My Guess is 1/2” for smooth walls.

  • KWIK-Release™ 9″ Roller Frame

  • 1 Mil 9′ x 12′ Plastic Drop Cloth

  • 1 ½” Sherwin Williams Contractor Series® Extra Firm Angle Sash Brush

  • Multi surface Scotch tape

How to Paint a Bedroom Wall:

  1. Prepare your surface.making sure it’s clean, dry, dull and sound. Apply the painter’s masking tape around walls, ceiling, molding and anything else you don’t want to paint to protect them. Tape the plastic drop cloth below the wall to protect your floors and furniture.

  2. Start by outlining the whole wall. For corners and other small details, you can use small brushes. I like flat brushes, like the Purdy Clearcut Swan (3″) to outline the ceiling. I like to use an angle brush for corners and small details.

  3. Apply the paint to the whole wall. You might need to add two layers of paint to get a uniform color on the whole wall.

  4. Wait until the walls are dry and remove the painter’s masking tape.

This is how this beautiful color, Aloe SW 6464, looks in the walls of our bedroom.
