Food Coloring, The Key of Happiness

The Key of Happiness

A few days ago I had the good fortune of saying hello to Gretchen Rubin, author of the book "The Happiness Project"

I remember falling in love with her book when I read the quote “What's fun for other people may not be fun for you - and viceversa"

I have often found myself feeling guilty for not doing what the people around me were doing. I'm not loud and impulsive and I don't mind spending the afternoon watching Disney movies with my little brothers instead of going to one of those wild pool parties everyone else seems to love. Even when I knew that I was more the kind of girl that enjoyed a cup of coffee and a calm talk. I tend to care more about 'not looking weird or boring' than actually accepting and loving myself for the things I enjoy doing.

So when I read that quote I had this 'aha' moment, I felt understood. Who doesn't love that, right?

The story of why I bought the book is not out if ordinary. I saw it from the other side of the bookstore, the illustration and colors jumped out from the pile, it was love at first sight. The story of how I read the book is more fun. At that time my English wasn't so good, so I used to sit down on the porch with the book in one hand and a dictionary in the other. I spent the summer reading small sentences and looking up the words I didn't understand. This was the first book I read in English, all the cheerful quotes kept me motivated and happy!

So there I was, a couple of years later, in a bookstore in Redwood City, California, looking at this cheerful person talking about happiness. She mentioned something that made me smile, it was about her story of how she started celebrating small holidays with her family. Instead of big celebrations, she started making special breakfasts for her family, and her idea was honestly genius, it's cheap, easy and shouldn't even take any more time than a normal breakfast, food coloring! Just make a normal breakfast and make it colorful, blue eggs, green pancakes, or any other combo you can think of, how would kids, or well honestly anybody, not go crazy over that!

So, now you know what the key of happiness is, that’s right, food coloring!! color and happiness in the same sentence, I truly love that.

Tell me, what book has inspired your life? I would love to add a new one to my list!
