Find inspirationStart with a visual to spark your creativity. Whether it’s a favorite painting, a page from a magazine or a photograph filled with beachy tones to draw from. Use that as a base to build upon for your color scheme and pattern choices.2. Match the spaceImage Source: Robin Buckwalter on Zillow Digs®Patterns, colors and textures bring tone and energy to a room, so before selecting a main pattern or color scheme, consider how you want the space to feel. A busier pattern will bring vibrant energy to a room, while a softer, warm-toned pattern will be more subdued.Don’t forget to think about the desired focus of the room. Using smaller patterns and bold colors tend to draw attention to an area.3. Consider scale and color schemeThe key to working with multiple patterns fluidly is to vary the scale and size of the prints, while staying in a complementary color scheme. The assortment of scale – weaving in large, medium and small prints – creates an effortlessly warm space without being too busy. You can also pull a color from one of the larger prints and find a secondary print that incorporates that color. This trick ties the room together, adding additional variety to your scheme.4. Add textureImage Source: Nina Magon on Zillow Digs®Texture adds another layer to a room. And, it’s just as important! Take into account the fabric and materials in the room – from pillows, to end tables, to rugs – as all these pieces will help set a tone.Wallpaper is also a great way to incorporate instant texture to an accent wall, and can bring a room to the next level for design.5. Achieve balanceImage Source: Nina Magon on Zillow Digs®With an array of prints throughout a room, ranging from floral to geometric, you’ll want to offset it with large neutrals. For every pattern and color incorporated into the space, add a neutral to dilute the busyness and tie all of the details together.Combining patterns, colors and textures adds unique personality to a room and immediately makes it your own. Don’t be afraid to make bold pattern and color choices, and have fun bringing an extra dose of energy into your space. For more design inspiration, check out Zillow Digs.
