DIY: How to Make Clay Flowers
When I think about Mother’s day the first thing that comes to my mind are flowers. Mommies love flowers, they are such a great way to show them our love and appreciation. The best part is that your kids can help you make them, and these flowers will stay with you for a very long time.
You are gonna need:
- Sticks, you can use common bamboo skewers
- Acrylic paint (any colors you like)
- Brush
- Air dry modeling clay
You can start painting the sticks with some lovely colors. This step is not necessary, I just felt it would add a little something special to the project.
I made three styles of flowers. My mom would love them all mixed together in a glass vase, but maybe you would like to make a couple with the same design. Choose your favorite, the steps are really easy!
For each flowers you will need to start kneading the clay until it is soft and go ahead and roll it into a ball. See the pictures 1 and 2 below.Flower #1
Crush the clay ball into a flat circle.
Start molding the flower with your fingers. Like if you were making a mini bowl.
Using your nails mark five lines from the outside to the center. The center should look like a star when you’re done.
Take one of the balls and roll it into a cylinder.
Roll the cylinder into a circle and pinch each corners with your fingers.
Flower #3
Take one of the balls and divide it in two.
Make two flowers following the steps from flower #1 but without pushing your nails into the clay.
Attach them together.
I made some holes in the center, I am planning to add a cute piece of yarn and loop it around.
You can add some textures using sticks or anything else you find interesting. I added some dots on all three flowers using another bamboo skewer.
Add the skewers to the flowers and let them dry for about 24 hours. Check out the instructions on the clay’s packaging.
The good thing about this kind of clay is that you don’t need to bake it. I love that.
And they are ready! Now you can put them in a crystal base or a terracotta pot, something cute your mom would love.
