I wanted to get a colorful mexican serape blanket ever since I moved to our new apartment a few months back. Just in case you have never seen them before, mexican serapes are basically long blankets, kind of like a shawl, with interesting patterns and bright color combinations.
You have no idea how excited I was when Del Mex sent me these gorgeous serapes so I could try them in my home. At first I wanted to use them as sofa covers, but once I got my hands on them I discovered I could use them for so many other things. I tried a few ideas at home and I have to say, I love my space transformation!

1. Use a serape as sofa cover.
With my baby and my dog Kyra at home, keeping the sofa clean has become a challenge. So I started looking for a pretty sofa cover and haven’t had much luck. They are normally boring solid colors and I was looking for something extra colorful. I saw a serape blanket on Pinterest the other day and I knew that they would be great sofa covers. The serape blanket I got was a big one (measures: 82″ by 60″) and it covered my three seat sofa perfectly, it’s also in a beautiful turquoise color and it looks great next to the modern artwork I have in the living room.
2. Use a serape as wall art.
Serapes have beautiful patterns and bright colors, so why not use them as wall art to cover your walls and give a colorful - fun look to your space?
I folded my big serape and hung it on the wall using a pair of nails. This is an inexpensive way to add color to your walls and a great solution for renters who can't paint their walls but feel they need to add more color in their homes.
3. Use a serape as throw blanket.
Serapes can be great throw blankets! I folded mine and just threw it over my comforter. This will definitely make me feel happy each morning because it add lots of color.
There are other great things you can make with a mexican serape blanket like using them as a table cover, a picnic or beach blanket or a picture backdrop and more. I just love how colorful and fun they look!
