DIY: Family Memory Card Game

Create a one of a kind memory card game using your family’s favorite pictures together!

Since my family live far away, some of them are in Tabasco and others in Mexico City, we love taking pictures to remember the cherished moments we spend when we get together.

I love sharing those memories over Instagram, but I have to admit that even when I like having the pictures in the app, it's not the same as being able to look at those pictures printed on paper. I printed a few of them and I had this great idea of making a memory card game with them so I can play it with my son.

This is a great family-friendly craft project. The kids can help you make the memory cards and you’ll have the opportunity to tell them a few funny memories about their abuelitos, tias and primos while playing.

MATERIALS:

  • Print family pictures in cardstock

  • white cardstock for the back of the card

  • x-acto knife or scissors

  • glue

How to make a family memory card game:

  1. Print family pictures. Pick your favorite family pictures in your phone, crop them in a square in an editing app so all look the same. Print a couple of them adding one extra copy for each memory, so you have two exact same pictures.

I printed like 10 pictures twice, so my memory card game ended up having 20 pieces in total.

  2. Cut out the pictures. Use an x-acto knife to cut all the pictures so all of them look straight and precise. You can also use regular scissors too, but sometimes the x-acto knife feels easier for me for some reason.

  3. Cut cardstock. Create the back of your memory card game using cardstock. Cut a rectangle a bit bigger than the pictures you printed, leaving around 1 cm in the left side, right side and above and maybe around 2 cm on the bottom side to give it that look like an polaroid picture. I also decided to use white cardstock because I wanted to create a style similar to the pictures in the polaroids, but you can use another color of cardtstock you want! just make sure to use the same color for all the pictures so when you are playing the game you don’t get clues because of the colors in the back of the cards.

  4. Glue the pieces together. Use any craft glue you love and glue the pictures on top of the cardstock. I like to measure at least one corner to be able to place them correctly in the middle.

That easy! This is s one of a kind activity and craft project that you can create with the kids. It’s also a great gift for the holiday season, mother’s day and a special keepsake full of fun and special memories.

Have fun with your new memory card game!
