Useful Tips and Tricks for a Perfect Wall Gallery
Give life to old frames with an earthy color and make an artsy wall gallery this fall with these tips and tricks.
Fall colors are so beautiful, something about them are really cozy and charming. and I love to use them as inspiration and incorporate them into my home.
If you are feeling inspired by the season as well, one way to pick the perfect color for your walls or DIY projects is to take a picture of a bunch of dry leaves or trees and use an app like ColorSnap® by Sherwin-Williams to find the right paint tone for your home.
I found the perfect one, a color named Copper Harbor (SW 6634). It’s rich, cozy and brings that warm feeling I was hoping for to my living room.
For this project I looked for a few old frames in different shapes and sizes and gave them life through paint. They look renewed and fresh and the project is simple, easy and really fun.
I’m also going to share you below an easy trick to make sure your frames are in the perfect position on the walls and make sure your design looks perfect and effortless.
MATERIALS:
Old picture frames in different sizes and shapes.
1 Quart of Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex Paint. Color: Copper Harbor (SW 6634). Matte
1 ½” Brushes (Contractor Series® Extra Firm Angle Sash Brush)
How to Create an Artsy Wall Gallery with Old Frames:
1. Get some Old Frames. Get a few wooden picture frames in different sizes and shapes. You can look for them in flea markets or second hand stores. Baskets and trays also look really nice and neat in you want to hang them as art on the walls.
2. Sand the Old Frames. Start by sanding the old picture frames to remove the old paint or finish on the wood. I used a medium grain sandpaper and it worked great.
3. Apply two or three layers of paint. I love the texture of a matte finish for this project. I applied three layers of paint just to make sure the color was perfect. As you can see in the image below, I upcycled an old basket and painted the interior in the same color to add an interesting touch in the wall gallery.
4. Create a design for your wall gallery. Plan where every frame should hang on a big piece of kraft paper to make the design process really easy. When you have every framed laid out on the paper, draw a mark in the center og each frame, tape the piece of paper on the wall and nail through it.
5. Hang the frames. Remove the kraft paper and hang the frames. Get as many frames as you want and try to pick different sizes and shapes for an interesting and playful look!
