How to Paint a Chevron Wall

I really like the color of my kid’s bedroom. The room was already painted with that hue when we moved in and we decided to keep it that way. It’s an unusual shade for a toddler, but it works great as a neutral canvas for all the colorful toys that are laying around the room.
There is just one problem with this shade of gray-blue, it darkens the space. So I decided to add a lighter color that will balance the light in the room.
At first, I was just going to paint the whole wall in white. But then, I was inspired by the idea of painting some waves, that would look great with the acrylic octopus mobile that my son has above his crib. My son is really into animals, and water, so I knew it was going to be perfect.
Instead of covering the whole wall, I brainstormed and came up with a simple chevron pattern that simulates waves, and looks versatile and modern.
MATERIALS:
1 gallon of Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex Paint. Sheen: Matte. Color: Snowbound SW 7004
ScotchBlue™ Painter's Tape Delicate Surfaces with Advanced Edge-Lock
1 Purdy® White Dove™ Roller Cover 9"
KWIK-Release™ 9″ Roller Frame
1 Mil 9′ x 12′ Plastic Drop Cloth
STEPS:
Start by measuring the wall and planning where you are going to start the chevron pattern.
Measure, mark and use painter’s tape to trace the pattern in the whole wall.
Use a brush or a paint roller and apply the first layer of color. Try to not to use too much paint, so the paint doesn’t get inside the painter’s tape. Let it dry for a couple of hours.
You might need to apply a second layer of paint. Let it dry for a couple of hours.
Make sure the paint is dry and remove the tape. Do it carefully to avoid pulling up any paint.
The wall looks great, and the white pattern actually lightens up the room. I also moved things around in the bedroom, so everything looks new and fresh!
