Download and print the design in black and white on standard paper or card stock paper for a more sturdy look.
NOTE: You’ll need to print two sugar skulls to create your party favor bag, one for the front and one for the back.
2. Color and Personalize:
Use your favorite coloring tools such as marker, colored pencils, crayons, etc to add vibrant colors to your printable. This is where your creativity shines!
Consider using different colors for different elements, and feel free to add extra details using other materials like glitter, stickers, felt or foam to make your sugar skull party favor bag unique and special.
You can color both faces of the sugar skull the back and the front, or leave the one in the back without color.
3. Assemble the party favor bag:
Cut your two sugar skull printables all around the skull shape.
Carefully glue around the edges using a craft glue. Make sure you leave a margin around the edges particularly at the bottom of the teeth. This margin space should be big enough to easily punch some holes and insert the candy in the steps below.
Another fun idea is to sew into the paper for an easier and faster way to close your party favor (That’s how we did it!). This is helpful if you have a sewing machine, but not necessary at all.
Tip: If using glue, let it dry completely before moving on to the next step to avoid any smudges or mishaps.
4. Add the Candy:
Once you assemble the party favor bag, gently insert some small candy into the opening at the bottom of the sugar skull.
5. Punch Holes for Decoration:
Use a hole punch to make holes in the bottom of your sugar skull. These holes will be used to add ribbon or tissue paper strips and be able to open your party favor bag like a pull string piñata.
6. Close and Decorate:
Thread a ribbon or tissue paper strips through the holes and tie them securely.
This will add a fun and festive touch, making it easy to open and close.
Use as many colors for the ribbons to create a super festive look for your party favors.
For opening your party favors you can pull the ribbon or tissue paper strips like a pull-string piñata, or just untie them one by one and get the candy out!
Why not add your guests' names to the tops of those candy sugar skulls? It’s a cool touch that makes them perfect for sparking conversations and adds a bit of extra fun when unwrapping!
Just follow the steps above to put these together, and have a blast with the process. Enjoy the festive vibes and the happy reactions!
Feliz Dia de los Muertos 💀
