The holiday season inspires to celebrate a life full of unique moments and beautiful people that has crossed our path. Let's celebrate those friendships together with Hallmark Vida! | Live Colorful

It’s that time of year again, when we go shop for a Christmas tree, or in our case, take it out of the box, and the memories of all those people who have been and still are a part of our lives begin to come to mind.

My friend Edith, is probably the first person that I think of during this season. I always think about her and all the amazing memories we created together. I traveled with her to the Southern Hemisphere, from Mexico to Chile when we were just 19 years old. We lived together in this tiny bedroom in a beautiful city named Viña del Mar. When we moved together, we didn’t know each other very much, and we had no idea we were about to live some of the best months of our lives. I always think about our sleepless nights, and how we used to go to parties and then back to our room to finish art or design projects for the next day’s classes. It was crazy and so much fun.

When we went back to Mexico, we continued to see each other often at college, we took the same classes and even managed to travel together a few more times around Mexico. I remember the day I told her that I was moving to the United States with my boyfriend, who is my husband now. It was one of the hardest things. It broke my heart to know that I was not going to see her very often and that our lives as we knew them, were about to change a lot.

A few months later she moved to another city in Mexico too, but even from a distance we managed to stay in touch.

Then, two and a half years ago, Edith called me to let me know that she was pregnant. I remember thinking, this is crazy, I just had taken a pregnancy test and it was positive! We talked on a video chat probably for an hour. I started to imagine our babies playing together, and if they were going to be two boys, two girls, boy and girl? Then five months later I traveled to Mexico and I got the opportunity to see her again because she was back in town too. We spent a whole weekend together at my parents home, like old times, staying awake until midnight, waking up late, going to the beach for a walk, talking about college, about Chile, about our trips around Mexico and about our hopes and dreams, but not for us, for our babies.

My son Jaxon was born on February 9 and Edith’s daughter, Isabella on February 14, just five days later.

Thinking about all of these memories made me realize that life can be funny sometimes, it brings us incredible surprises, like the opportunity of experiencing motherhood at the same time as my best friend.

How do you celebrate a friendship like that? Hallmark Vida makes it look easy, by creating holiday greeting cards and ornaments that simply express that sincere affection. Hallmark Vida cards and ornaments are also in Spanish. Being able to send a card in my native language feels incredibly special. The message in Hallmark Vida greeting cards has the exact words I used to say to family and friends. Reading them brings back memories, and that makes them even more unique and personal. All my friends who speak Spanish would know that, there is nothing like reading un te quiero mucho, Feliz Navidad or tu amistad me ha regalado tanto!

I wrote a card to Edith last night. I put it in the mail this morning. I hope that it surprises her and hugs her from far away.

A Happy Holidays Garland with Love+Lemon Craft Co. and Live Colorful

The holiday season is approaching fast, and that is inspiring tons of creative ideas I would love to make for the special people in my life. That’s why I’m so excited about collaborating with one of the cutest brands out there, Love+Lemon Craft Co., and using their products in my projects.

In case you have never heard of them, Love+Lemon Craft Co. is an online shop that focus on paper crafting. They sell the cutest brads, fun washi tape designs and unique stickers designs, and they also feature some novelty/party items such as enamel pins, iron-on patches and banner kits.

This week I started to personalize the homemade presents that I’m making for family and friends. I used a few different washi tape designs to add a special touch to the jars and make them look unique for each person.

I also created something simple and pretty to hang next to the Christmas tree. I wanted to cover a small empty space in the wall that was driving me a bit crazy, so this easy project was perfect for that.

I thought it would be fun to make an illustration of a christmas tree to decorate that empty space on the wall. I used watercolors to draw it, then I scanned it and put together a printable in case you would like to add it to your holiday projects too.

To assemble the garland, I stuck the illustrations on top of a few gift tags using sparkly washi tape. I added some twine and hung the gift tags using clothespins. Simple and joyful!

I love how versatile, chic and fun are all the Love+Lemon Craft Co. products are. I can’t wait to start making something for New Years. I want to use some alphabet stickers, washi tape, pendant paper pads and stickers! I’m thinking about decorating my new home entrance to receive guests for a New Year’s Eve party, and maybe some awesome New Year’s Eve DIY earrings!

Any crafts / DIY projects in mind for the Holiday season?

Celebrate the extraordinary people in your life in a special way this holiday season | Live Colorful

As I scroll down the pictures on my phone, I start to think of all the special moments I have lived over the past year. I remember my son’s first birthday party. My sister in law’s wedding in North Carolina. Visiting my parents in their new home in Mexico City. The reunion with my best friend from college. The day my grandparents hugged my son for the first time. I also think about the new people I met this year. I think of family picnic days and “girl nights” with virgin cocktails and deep conversations about our kids’ afternoon activities.

I remember all that, and I smile. I feel so lucky and loved this year. It’s an amazing feeling.

Hallmark Signature cards are beautifully made and feel special and unique, just like the people in my life. Each one of them reminds me of someone with whom I shared something important, silly or funny. They also have the perfect words and details to personalize that special message in an extraordinary way.

After my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer, I felt the urge to let him know that I was going to be with him in that difficult moment even if we were living so far away from each other. I was moving away from Mexico just a few months after hearing the news too.

My heart felt broken just by knowing that I was leaving my home, my grandparents, my parents, my little brothers and sister.

I wanted to say something special to all of them, but words didn’t come out easily from my mouth. So I decided to write it.

A night before my flight, to my new home in the United States, I wrote a few cards for these extraordinary people in my life. I sneaked into their rooms, and left them on their bedside tables.

I packed the car that night and left the next day before dawn. It was one of the hardest thing I have done in my whole life and writing those letters was one of the best things I have done as well. I left my soul there, with them, on those pieces of paper.

From that day I learned how special and powerful physical cards can be.

For the last year, I’ve included my son in getting cards ready for family and friends. He loves that I ask him to help, and brings his stamps over as fast as he can.

I believe that cards carry a nostalgic value of something beautiful that a person you love touched it before giving it to you. That’s why I want him to feel excited about doodling something for grandma, grandpa and his tíos and tías. I want him to understand, that a simple detail, like receiving a card in the mail, is enough to let them know that we think about them and we miss them with all our heart.

I didn’t grow up with that tradition, but I believe it’s a great one to teach my kid about, embrace and keep for years to come.

Since Hallmark Signature cards are so lovely, I couldn’t give them all away. We are keeping one for our family that I’ll display on the Christmas tree the whole holiday season. When the holidays end, I’ll save it in our album of memories. It will be a great thing to see a few years from now, next to a picture of all of us.
