As I scroll down the pictures on my phone, I start to think of all the special moments I have lived over the past year. I remember my son’s first birthday party. My sister in law’s wedding in North Carolina. Visiting my parents in their new home in Mexico City. The reunion with my best friend from college. The day my grandparents hugged my son for the first time. I also think about the new people I met this year. I think of family picnic days and “girl nights” with virgin cocktails and deep conversations about our kids’ afternoon activities.

I remember all that, and I smile. I feel so lucky and loved this year. It’s an amazing feeling.

Hallmark Signature cards are beautifully made and feel special and unique, just like the people in my life. Each one of them reminds me of someone with whom I shared something important, silly or funny. They also have the perfect words and details to personalize that special message in an extraordinary way.

After my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer, I felt the urge to let him know that I was going to be with him in that difficult moment even if we were living so far away from each other. I was moving away from Mexico just a few months after hearing the news too.

My heart felt broken just by knowing that I was leaving my home, my grandparents, my parents, my little brothers and sister.

I wanted to say something special to all of them, but words didn’t come out easily from my mouth. So I decided to write it.

A night before my flight, to my new home in the United States, I wrote a few cards for these extraordinary people in my life. I sneaked into their rooms, and left them on their bedside tables.

I packed the car that night and left the next day before dawn. It was one of the hardest thing I have done in my whole life and writing those letters was one of the best things I have done as well. I left my soul there, with them, on those pieces of paper.

From that day I learned how special and powerful physical cards can be.

For the last year, I’ve included my son in getting cards ready for family and friends. He loves that I ask him to help, and brings his stamps over as fast as he can.

I believe that cards carry a nostalgic value of something beautiful that a person you love touched it before giving it to you. That’s why I want him to feel excited about doodling something for grandma, grandpa and his tíos and tías. I want him to understand, that a simple detail, like receiving a card in the mail, is enough to let them know that we think about them and we miss them with all our heart.

I didn’t grow up with that tradition, but I believe it’s a great one to teach my kid about, embrace and keep for years to come.

Since Hallmark Signature cards are so lovely, I couldn’t give them all away. We are keeping one for our family that I’ll display on the Christmas tree the whole holiday season. When the holidays end, I’ll save it in our album of memories. It will be a great thing to see a few years from now, next to a picture of all of us.

As a creative person and obsessive planner, I appreciate a good pen. I care about how it feels, how it looks and of course, the vibrancy of its mark. That’s why I was extremely excited about partnering with Pilot Corporation of America in this fun sponsored collaboration.

I have been a fan of Pilot Corporation of America for a long time. I heard amazing things about friends who already tried G2 gel ink pens before, and I wanted to feel the same excitement about planning, color-coding and overachieving my daily tasks.

My two favorite things about G2 gel ink pens, are probably the vibrancy of their color options thanks to their special formula using pigments instead of dyes resulting in richer lines. I also enjoy the smooth texture when writing and the durability.

I have been using G2 gel ink pens in different ways in the last few days. I wrote to-do notes, grocery lists and even made some doodles that I translated into digital illustrations with success. That gave me the idea of making my own coloring page just for fun, and because I knew a coloring page and G2 ink pens would be awesome stocking stuffer or holiday gifts!

How to Make your Own Coloring Page

MATERIALS:

STEPS:

  1. The first step to make your own coloring page is the most fun one. Grab a cup of coffee, paper sheets and your awesome G2 gel ink pens and start doodling all over the sheet.

  1. When you finish your doodles, scan your drawing.
  2. Edit the scan, if possible using your scanner editing options. You can also use a photo editing software or phone app. The key is to add about 80% of brightness and 90% of contrast into the image to make the lines more saturated, and give them that look of a coloring page.
  3. Crop any defects on the page if necessary and save your new page as PDF or JPG.

  1. Now print your coloring page as many times as you like. It’s that easy! Especially using such a rich pen as G2!

The cutest birth announcements, birthday and baby shower invitations by Basic Invite

When our little Jax was born, we found an overwhelming love and happiness that was hard to describe. We tried our best to plan ahead as much as possible and do all the things that, as new parents, we were to supposed to do. We packed a hospital bag, we decorated Jaxon’s nursery and we even hired a photographer to capture our baby’s first day of life. But not surprisingly, we also forgot to do many things. One of those things was to send our baby’s birth announcement to friends and family.

Months later, a friend of us sent us her little girl’s birth announcement. It felt so personal, sweet and special. I remember looking at her printed memory with melancholy and thinking of the first time we saw our baby boy’s adorable face.

I wish we could go back to be able to share that moment with the people we love. That’s why I always encourage new moms to look for a birth announcement design they love in advance and be able to have them ready after the baby is born.

I was so happy to be invited to collaborate with Basic Invite and share with you not only their creative birth announcement designs, but also their custom baby shower and cheap first birthday invitations.

I ordered a sample to be able to check out quality and colors and honestly I really love everything about it. The quality of the paper (I ordered Signature Matte) is great, and the colors were just as I imagined. I picked “THE ARROW STATS BOY BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENTS” design and I was able to personalize the picture, font, information and even the colors I wanted.

One of the things I appreciated the most about their service, was receiving an email for one of their designers to ask me about my product and my experience with their shipping and site, and to offer me help and advice if I needed to make any changes with my order.

In terms of design, Basic Invite is one of the few websites that allows customers almost unlimited color options with instant previews online. Once you select a design you can change the color of each element on the card to over 180 different color options so you can make sure the card is exactly how you want it down to the littlest detail. Basic Invite also offers over 40 different colors of envelopes! To make your invitations and announcements stand out even before they are opened.

Their birthday invitations got me excited about Jaxon’s birthday too, since it is getting closer and closer. I’m trying to get inspiration from their selection. Maybe space? I don’t know, there are so many cute designs to pick from.
