Curtains are a great way to add color and pattern to your home, and they are so easy to make!

When we moved, my baby was so little that I really didn’t want to work on many projects for the home, so I left the ugly gray-green curtains that were in the house when we moved for months. Until I started this fun collaboration with Digital Fabrics thanks to the recommendation a great friend, Jocelina Paixao from Pink Chocolate Break.

Digital Fabrics is an online fabric shop where you can design and print your own fabric. I have to say that my favorite part was their range of fabric that goes from chiffon, matte lycra, fleece, cotton linen, wattle and many other options for the fashion and home decor industry, and of course, the fact that you can create and print your own designs.

I knew that I wanted to make something for the home since I haven’t been able to find prints that I love. Inspired by that, I created LIVE COLORFUL collection with bright and happy prints that would look amazing for curtains, pillows, bean bags, upholstery, baskets and many other projects.

When the fabric arrived, I knew exactly what to make with it, new curtains!

MATERIALS:

• Approximately 2.5 meters of fabric. I used one of LIVE COLORFUL collection named “lemonade”. The fabric is waratah 100% polyester.
• Sewing machine
• Thread
• Scissors
• Iron

Spring is my favorite season of the year. It’s not just about the flowers, the weather and the beautiful bright pastel colors, it’s also my Birthday season! and I love to get my home ready to have friends and family over to celebrate.

How to get your home ready for a spring Party:

 

1. Welcome your guests with a pretty entrance. A cheerful flower wreath, planters with seasonal flowers and a happy looking doormat will make your guests feel welcome.

2. Get a tablecloth for your dining room table. You’ll be surprised how different a room can look with a seasonal tablecloth. Pick something with birds, butterflies, Easter eggs, little ducks, flowers or anything colorful and cute.

3. Create a festive centerpiece. There are so many ways to create creative and beautiful simple centerpieces. One idea is to fill a vase with lemons, which will add a great punch of color to your decorations. Another idea is to make a sweet Easter nest using a basket, filler paper grass, Easter eggs, candy and seasonal chocolates.

4. All the things a party needs! It’s happened to me more  than once. I have the food and beverages ready, but I don’t have pretty containers to display them. So don’t forget to get some pretty serveware, dinnerware, flatware, and drinkware to entertain your guest properly and with style.

5. Plan the menu. Finger food in Spring parties are always a success. Include some seasonal veggies and fruits.

6. Beverages. Receive your guest with something fresh and bubbly, so they get into the mood as soon as they get to your home.

7. Surprises are the best. It’s also smart to have a few entertainment elements such as toys or books if kids are invited. Something related to the occasion is even better and more fun. No kids, well add something interesting like a bowl full of chocolates or adorable marshmallow candies to surprise your guests and make them feel special.

My dining room area needed a punch of color and freshness and I wanted to make it happen by painting the wall behind my dining room table in a happy and energetic color.

I have always felt like yellow makes me smile. It reminds me of summer, the neighborhood I grew up in back in Mexico and all the lemon trees that you could see around.

So I ran to my local Sherwin William store to look for the perfect yellow for my dining room area. I loved how easy it was to find it in the new ColorSnap® displays.

They have created a new, comprehensive and integrated system that could save up to 60% of time while picking and exploring colors. One of the main improvements of the system is that now it’s possible to explore groups of color by family, like red, yellow or blue, and by saturation level, from bright to neutral with a new exclusive category for whites.

Knowing that I wanted a yellow tone, I just ran to this panel and I started scanning for my favorites. Another thing I really liked was being able to take the paint samples home which are now bigger than they used to be, 2 x 3 inches, and replaced the longer strips that sometimes made you feel confused since you needed to look at different options at the same time.

I went back home and taped three different paint samples I brought home to the wall and I looked at them from far away. That’s how I decided for the beautiful Lemon Twist (SW 6909)!

MATERIALS:

• 1 gallon of Harmony® Interior Acrylic Latex Paint. Sheen: Semi-Gloss. Color: SW 6909 Lemon Twist.
• 1 Purdy® White Dove™ Roller Cover
• KWIK-Release™ 9″ Roller Frame
• 1 Mil 9′ x 12′ Plastic Drop Cloth
• 1 ½” Sherwin Williams Contractor Series® Extra Firm Angle Sash Brush
• Multi surface Scotch tape
• 1 Purdy® Clearcut® Swan (3″)

STEPS:

1. Put the painter’s masking tape around windows, ceiling and anything else you don’t want to paint to protect them.
2. Start by outlining the whole wall. For corners and other small details, you can use small brushes. I like flat brushes, like the Purdy Clearcut Swan (3″) to outline the ceiling. I like to use an angle brush for corners and small details.
3. Apply the paint to the whole wall. You might need to add two layers of paint to get a uniform color on the whole wall.
4. Wait until the walls are dry and remove the painter’s masking tape.
