I shared this awesome and festive project at Club Chica Circle a long time ago, it is still one of my favorite projects to create with kids because it inspires you to look through old pictures and talked about your favorite memories with your children, and also because working with clay and paint is such an entertainment activity for the little ones.

Another cool reason is that handmade ornaments can be personalized and that makes them unique and special.

When I started the project I knew that I wanted to include some photos. The first thing that came to mind were ornaments that look like iPhones, I don't know why! I thought they would look so cool, and I was so right!

Here are all the materials I used to create the handmade iPhone Christmas ornaments. Model air clay, mod podge, printed pictures, brushes and more! Check out the list below:

How to Make Cute iPhone Ornaments with Air Dry Clay and Pictures:

1. Create a smooth surface. Start by using the roller to flatten the clay and create a smooth base.

2. Cut the iPhone shape out of clay. Cut a rectangle out of the air dry clay measuring the size of an iPhone. You can make them smaller if you want to create tiny iPhones or bigger if you want to add bigger pictures. I used a knife that is special for clay, like this one here, but you can use an old kitchen knife or an exacto knife as well.

3. Make the buttons of the iPhone. Use a toothpick or other knick knacks you have around the house to make the buttons of the iPhone. I used a toothpick to draw some of the parts in the iPhone, but to create the shape of the button below I used an AA battery. Can you see it in the image below?

Remember to make a hole at the top as well, use a straw for that, so you can hang them in your Christmas tree.

Let the air clay dry for at least 12 hours.

4. Paint the ornaments. Apply one or two layers of white acrylic paint to give your ornaments the same look of an iPhone.

NOTE:

You might be able to find white clay like I shared in the material list above. In that case, you don't need to paint them, just let them dry!

5. Design your iPhone case for your Ornaments. For the back of these handmade iPhone ornaments, have fun painting some designs! Imagine that you are designing your own cell phone covers.

6. Glue the pictures. Now is time to cut out some pictures the size of an iPhone screen. I printed several pictures using my regular printer. They measure approximately 3.5 x 2 inches.

You could also use magazine clippings instead of your personal photos.

Use mod podge to glue the pictures. When finished, add a layer of Mod Podge to the entire ornament, front and back, to protect it from water and dust.

Let it dry for a few hours.

7. Hang your iPhone ornaments. Add a ribbon or a thread and hang your new awesome ornaments in your Christmas tree! You could also make a garland with them or give them away to friends and family as a keepsake.

The photos make them special and personalized, something you'll love to have in your home during this very special and festive time!
