DIY Spider Web Candle Holder for Halloween
Create a festive candle holder with a sparkly spider web and get your home ready for Halloween!
I’m not used to incorporating much black and orange into my Halloween crafts. While I think those colors look fantastic, I usually gravitate towards brighter hues like pink and turquoise. I have a soft spot for whimsical ghosts, spiders, and all things colorful and spooky.
This year, though, my husband encouraged me to try something new since it's our first Halloween as a family of three. We’re excited to start involving our baby in the traditions we cherish. For me, Day of the Dead is a big deal, while my husband, leans more towards traditional Halloween. So, this year, I’m embracing the classic Halloween palette with orange and black, decorating the house with items that scream Halloween!
I recently received some creepy-chic candles from Yankee Candle, which sparked a wave of inspiration. I placed them around the apartment—on the kitchen counter, coffee table, and even set up a little corner for some spooky decorations.
Given the importance of safety when setting up Halloween decor, especially with candles and fabric, I decided to create a candle holder that not only offers some protection but also adds a touch of spookiness. This holder features a sparkly spider web design, making it both practical and festive.

How to Make a Candle Holder with Sparkly Spider Web:
Paint your wooden plaque
Start by painting the wooden plaque with a solid color. I chose to apply two coats of orange acrylic paint. To add a bit of texture, I used painter’s tape to create lines with visible wood peeking through when I removed the tape. This technique gave a layered effect, but you can opt to paint the entire plaque solidly if you prefer.
Allow the paint to dry for a couple of hours before moving on to the next step.
Draw a spider web
Once the solid color is completely dry, you can start drawing a simple spider web. Begin by sketching an asterisk shape at the center of the plaque.
Next, draw curved lines connecting each point of the asterisk to create the web pattern.
I used black acrylic paint for the spider web, but feel free to choose any color that suits your design.
Add the sparkles!
After your spider web design is complete, apply a layer of Mod Podge just on top of the entire web, focusing on the black paint. Use a skinny brush to ensure even coverage.
While the Mod Podge is still wet, sprinkle black glitter generously over the top for a sparkly, eye-catching finish. Let it dry completely to set the glitter and give your spider web a dazzling effect.
4. Seal the Candle Holder
To protect your candle holder from dust and humidity, apply an additional layer of Mod Podge over the entire design. This will help to seal and preserve your creation, ensuring it remains looking great throughout the Halloween season.
I’m thrilled to have my home all set for Halloween, looking festive and perfectly traditional. Now, all that's left is to pick out some pumpkins and add them to our decorations to complete the look!
