This year we are enjoying swimming in the lake almost every weekend and playing in the forest. Summer in the Sierra Nevada is great because always feel fresh and not too hot if you are under the trees.

Yesterday we spend most of the day inside because I wasn’t feeling great, and since the Fourth of July celebrations are getting closer, we had the idea of making something fun using coffee filters and the patriotic colors blue and red.

This project can be recreated using any kind of colors you want. It’s so easy and such a fun way to spend a morning or afternoon crating and creating silly monster with your kid.

Materials:

Steps:

  1. Start by mixing water with a few drops of blue and red food coloring.

  2. Paint all over the coffee filters. We use brushes this time but you can use a medicine dropper as well.

  3. Wait until the coffee filters are dry and fold them to make a triangular shape.

  4. Glue some fun eyes in your monster.

  5. Add a couple of sticks on the bottom so you can play with it like a puppet!

  6. Draw a mouth in your monster and add some fun teeth using a black marker.
